The mighty Gators are at a crossroads this week. Dan Mullen's record is 4-6 (0.400) since December 2020. Mullen's overall record at Florida is currently 33-12 (73.33%). If he loses to UGA as many of us expect, his record will fall to 33-13 (71.74%) and he will be at 4-7 (36.4%) since December 2020. Mullen will need to win out in order to finish at 37-13 (74.00%) and bring his record above 0.500 since the loss to LSU.
The Gators' woes can be attributed to three major reasons:
1. Questionable head coaching
2. Horrible defensive coaching and execution
3. Inconsistent quarterback play
Dan Mullen will need to pull his head out of his *** during the bye week and get his headspace back to where it was in November 2020. On defense the Gator defense is merely showing complete incompetence displayed by Todd Grantham, whose defense has plummeted from #9 in the nation to #43. In 2020 this maligned unit finished #74 in the nation after finishing #7 in 2019 and #20 in 2018. On offense the Gators are #26 and are on track to tumble below previous rankings of #22 in 2018, #29 in 2019, #13 in 2020 (#1 in efficiency),
At quarterback EJ5 is 118/175 (67.43%) for 1304 yards, 10 TD, 9 INT and a rating of 138.6. AR15 is 21/37 (56.7%) for 392 yards, 5 TD, 3 INT and a rating of 174.1 in limited action. Richardson has the clear advantage in floor and ceiling with a low expected passer rating of 160 and a high of 220. Jones' floor and ceiling based on passer rating is 118 and 130.
Although not ideal the Gators' season is not in complete shambles. If the Gators win out they can still play for a bowl game. At this point the Gators could still finish 7-5 and play for the Liberty, Birmingham, or Gasparilla Bowl. At best the Gators could luck themselves into the Dukes' Mayo or Music City Bowl.
