Softball Settles For Runner Up

Gator Fan
No one saw this coming. No one, except Washington fans, would have predicted the Huskies to beat the Florida Gators in the Women's College World Series. The Gators had better pitching and better talent at the plate. So what happened? How could the No. 1 team in the country get swept in the World Series by a 3 seed?

Senior Stacey Nelson was on the mound again for the second game in a row, as was the Washington starting pitcher Danielle Lawrie. Stacey struck out five and allowed one walk and six hits in her 6.0 innings. She ended her career with 136 wins which was sixth in NCAA record books, second in Southeastern Conference history and first in the Florida books. Her 1,116 career strikeouts ranked fourth in SEC history and first at UF. Nelson was also responsible for giving up 2 earned runs and 1 unearned run.

It will be a memorable season for Gator fans... it's just once again they came up short of the title. Fans can greet the Gators when they return to Gainesville at the Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. You will be able to take pictures and kids can probably get autographs.
