Even after the recent addition of point guard Michael Okauru and 13 scholarship spots filled, Florida may not be done with potential roster changes for the 2017-18 season.
The Gators are hosting Rice grad transfer forward Egor Koulechov for a visit this weekend. Koulechov, who visited Oklahoma two weeks ago, shot 47.3 percent from 3-point range for Rice last season while averaging 18.2 points and 8.9 rebounds. At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, Koulechov would provide some insurance in the frontcourt if jumior forward Devin Robinson and junior center John Egbunu opted to keep their named in the NBA draft next month
Florida had success in the grad transfer route last season, with senior forward Canyon Barry finishing second on UF in scoring at 11.4 points per game while earning SEC sixth man of the year honors. Barry also will be forever known in Gator lore for his clutch blocked shot which sparked UF’s overtime comeback in its 84-83 Sweet 16 win over Wisconsin.
Other notes:
— Incoming 2017 freshman forward Yves Pons, who visited Florida last December with Okauru, signed with Tennessee on Wednesday.
— Former Fort Lauderdale-Cardinal Gibbons standout 6-6 guard Maverick Rowan, who was one of UF’s last 2015 recruiting targets under former UF coach Billy Donovan, is transferring from North Carolina State, according to multiple reports.
