If we had NOT LOST to USF, had come into this one at maybe 4-1, then perhapswe could continue fooling ourselves after losing this way.
But the blinders have long since come OFF:
Tough schedule or not, there is no way to put ANY kind of "pretty face" on THIS one...
"You're as good as your record SAYS you are!"
WE came INTO this one trying to GET to 3-and-3...and likely LEAVING once more sinking WAY under THAT.
Pending some absurd rally-that-isn't coming, I leave it at that.

TAMU appears to be a good, consistent and fully balanced team, capable of making a solid CFB Playoff run.
We, in contrast, are NOT.
That is to say, we are not "CONSISTENTLY" ANY of those things--"good", "consistent", or anything ELSE!

I have stopped watching; I just did not care to witness the coup de grace being administered.
So we didn't get slaughtered...BIG DEAL.
If I were to go to Billy's presser after this one, it would be SOLELY to administer my OWN "coup de grace" on Billy himself--in the form of a big fat CREAM PIE, delivered directly to his face for all to see.
(IMHO) Seldom has a college Coach more surely deserved such a public display of appropriate fan dissatisfaction.

I am not convinced he played this game TO WIN...I am not sure at this point whether he really even understands the concept--that at this level it MUST come before even your own pride--or anything ELSE!

Fuck it. I cannot root for this wayward version of our talented, "so close but OH SO FAR"-program any longer until we begin to make the achingly necessary "required changes".

Here's my opening bid:
He ain't the best, or in ANY way the "perfect" fit OR choice out there (I seriously doubt we can GET anyone from among THAT rarified theoretical group), but as far as who might be ready to take the step from "comfortably good enough" (like where he's at right now) up to potential perennial contender to TAKE IT ALL (Um, I am assuming that STILL is a part of OUR DNA), and it keeps adding back up to someone who might well be just the guy at just the right time and at just the right point in his career to GO FOR IT---and yes, I KNOW it comes with risks for US as well--but I now belatedly put him out there as "among the very few' who MAY be not simply "the best we can do now" but the guy at the right point in his career to step in and FIT at the one place that really NEEDS someone like him now:
Is it finally now "Lane Kiffen Time"at University of Florida?

I for one am completely fed up--am SICK TO DEATH of the wide array of ever-changing areas of DISarray this team and program continues to display. And THAT'S on our COACH:
Week after week, the only consistent feature of this team during his tenure has been INCONSISTENCY.
I simply see absolutely NO long (OR short) term advantage in retaining Billy Napier as our Coach...
And, while we are "facing facts", if anything I see even LESS substantive evidence for keeping Strickland as our A.D.
I do not "hate" Billy--on the contrary, I recognize that HE is a decent, good-hearted, if somewhat befuddled individual who has risen beyond his ability to execute his responsibilities with any real competence: As I have said before, he'd make a more-than-adequate small-time highschool or peewee-level Coach: I'd easily entrust the health and budding well-being of my 9 or 10 year old to his care.
But as a bigtime college Head Coach?
Well, we've already seen WAY more than enough damning evidence to the contrary in THAT regard.
HOWEVER: I HAVE come to fully DESPISE AND RESENT Scot Strickland as our Athletic Director.
The man just doesn't "GET" the priorities here at University of Florida. "Championships" in assorted "OTHER sports" is fine and good--but finding and hiring Coaches who manage it is hardly a central requirement of his job here: "solidly competitive across-the-board" is more than adequate...But it is of course FOOTBALL upon which our appreciation of man and job rests.
This is THE SEC:
FOOTBALL IN THE SOUTH has long since become the weekly outlet for all the repressed and sublimated post-Civil War tensions still reverberating down through history in America.
OK--I'm probably way over-stating in no doubt twisted fashion the true nature and underlying forces at work here, but y'all get the idea of what I'm trying to say--how much it MEANS to us down here...A Roundball Championship In March is satisfying for maybe a month or two for most at UF (and to a certain regional extent beyond), but a CFB Natty is thoroughly satisfying to the core of every soul comprising Gator Nation throughout the land--and NOT just for the following YEAR either: It leaves a slow-fading warm AFTERGLOW for years to come!
Coach who presides over just ONE gets cut a great deal of slack for some time...BUT--
The A.D. who misfires on that hire 4 or 5 times IN A ROW, over more than a DOZEN YEARS, well...HE has got to GO.
I mean, WTF is HE STILL DOING HERE??!

(Meanwhile, Penn State has already fired Franklin, THEIR "nice guy" Coach whom has shown considerable more consistent upward growth and onfield success than Billy during HIS time there...but nonetheless cut him loose at 3-and-3, just halfway into THEIR "season targeted for success". Had Strickland been THEIR A.D., the guy gets AT KEAST tge rest of the season to "see if he can turn things around"--especially as "he's recruited well" and "his players love him"; hell, if he held that group together and won the majority of their remaining scheduled games, Strickland would have likely kept him!
But even Penn State has higher standards than us by now.
I HATE it.)
