A whole LOT of this kind of talk going around now:
Y’ALL know how this goes, AND why it GOES this way…
A new Coach and his seemingly outstandinng incoming staff. In this New Day of NIL, a “General Manager” shouldering the FINANCIAL responsibilities, a seeming actual “PLAN” in the pursuit of talent on BOTH the field AND the sidelines, and MORE…
Look, we’ve been sold a lot of “HOPE” the last decade-PLUS—and the LAST guy took that and “quiet decency” to a new level, his calm warnings of “time and patience” and his endless “non-promises” more or less “poisoning the well” for whomever, WHATever was going to have to follow if (WHEN!) it all crashed…
And here we are.
“All of the above” I think goes long in explaining how and why we had come around to, actually came to think/FEEL that Kiffen was the best, the ONLY “Answer”!
Jon Sumrall was something different, something else entirely; he arrived without apologies, just honesty and positivity—a double shot of both, and it was like a splash of cold water on our collective faces AND a long hot bath, both at the same TIME ever since.
And somehow, without apology and without any onfield “proof of concept” that “EVERYONE” was saying would HAVE TO “come first”, somehow THIS Coach (in contrast to Lane, by the way) was able to finish properly at his old job while retaining the talent Napier (in his one clear strength) had found and brought in the “five gems already on hand” that he rightly recognized he wasn’t likely to improve upon in the portal, then (with the help of GM, AD, boosters and “old Gators coming out of the woodwork”) managed to hire one of the best young and upcoming staffs in college football—and as the “Gator Train” (intentionally retooling the original expression) now continues to gather speed, YES: We ALL feel the sense of rising power being applied.
I’m not expecting any “Championship Run” this year…
In fact, I think at this point we’d settle for 8 wins that include at least ONE “signature Win”…Anything better than that would require a COUPLE of those kind of wins; looking at this schedule, at the moment I’m not ready to do anything more than “Wait’n’SEE”.
But just based on what we’ve seen and heard so far, it should be fun, it MIGHT be exciting, and it will DEFINITELY be “interesting”!
