After everything else, after all the crap we had to suffer through throughout this game, that kid spitting and getting thrown out of the game, how it continued at a crucial juncture our defense's escorting them right down the field for the game killing fg, how, after EVERYTHING, ALL the bad memories of poor coaching coupled with stupid, selfish play, little has really changed after ALL. We ALL remember "the shoe throw", how it came to symbolize Dan Mullen's inattention and the generally selfish play along with rampant penalties and lack of discipline across-the-BOARD--and here it was all OVER AGAIN!
The main thing still "protecting" Billy WASN'T the buy out anymore, in my opinion, but the fear that soon as he is fired we lose DJ and a major part of the talent we've already accumulated, AND most of whatever is on-the-way.
The worst part is that if he could have just let go of his iron control of the play-calling maybe this could have been avoided.
I cannot SEE a way smoothly forward from here.
Personally, I can no longer envision any real "success", that "breakthrough beyond mediocrity" that was the minimum threshold, the "LEAST that was required" for this regime was to be allowed to go on managing if they weren't at least "in the mix" competing for a spot in the CFB Playoffs late in this regular season. Though not "statisicslly/officially" out of it yet, I think we ALL can see where things are likely headed--How can even 8-4 be considered "likely" from this currently confused a mess of a program? And THAT'S only after WEEK 2!
Forgive me if anyone thinks me deserting the sinking ship too soon--but I've been here, the latest vessel being far from the first that has been shot out from under us over more than HALF A CENTURY, since I was a kid.
It just HURTS TOO MUCH--and now I wonder if I will even be HERE by the time another NEW ship will next be built, christened, and sent forth on these stormy, changing seas.
I WANT to BE there. I WANT to be a part of it when it finally comes...but I am finally starting to believe it will be too far off after all.
And frankly, I am tired: Tired of nights, weeks, seasons, YEARS AND YEARS like THESE.
I bleed Orange and Blue, and now it more and more appears to be becoming one more thing that takes while giving less and less BACK.
All we really ASK in return is a certain amount of JOY. I THOUGHT that in an era of extreme, out front selfishness, OURS was a team and program still more built and focused on that "TEAM concept", marked by mutual support and loyalty--and I was MORE than willing to support, loyally ROOT FOR such a team and program. Now, at THIS moment I don't know WHAT to think. All I can do for now is step back. I'll THINK about it and see what in fact HAPPENS.
I welcome ANY of MEMBERS' OR guests' thoughts, ideas, and/or opinions on these matters now. What do we DO?
Is there a "proper way forward"??!
Beats me. BUT I will have to just sort of let it all toss me around for a while.

Here are the final stats, for the record. No need to discuss what could have happened or what will happen later. The Gators lost the game because Billy Napier's ultraconservative play calling provides no margin to overcome a few hiccups like two penaltives overturning scores and poor clock management at the end of a game.

Of course, "Like" is a poor descriptor for our complex mixture of anger and disappointment;
For the moment, suffice it to say that this last comment/summation by Escambia well-describes our basic situation and final plight.
There is nothing further I can add here.
Thing is, this approach of his if anything is DEEPENING: Napier's stubborn reliance on the expectation of PERFECTION by his squads in executing his unimaginative and frustratingly conservative gameplans are GETTING WORSE:
LESS flexible, MORE unyieldingly repetitive in his stubborn and insistent returning to a sort of "we're gonna run this until we get it right", "Captain Queeg" kind of self-destructiveness as he takes the very construct that he has lovingly and determinedly created, gathered together here at UF, down WITH him. (NOTE: The "Queeg" reference arises aptly from the Humphrey Bogard movie, "The Caine Mutiny"--a great, if harrowing film that, while perhaps over-the-top in describing Billy's behavior, DOES well-cover I think the compulsive and inevitable drive towards an impossible concept of "perfection" that in reality dooms that very same quest.)
Given the truth of these being young human males, after all, driven and dedicated athletes who, even if devoted to Coach, program and EACH OTHER, are not and cannot really ever BE "perfect"--themselves as individuals OR in executing a constantly evolving version of their Coach's maifest CONCEPT of this standard.
Inevitably, they fail--and the resulting frustration breaks THEIR hopes and dreams in pursuing it, and OURS in watching, witnessing that failure in the growing darkness of our own growing sense of hopelessness.
Personally, I am now close to perhaps a "final BREAK"--a necessary cessation of the experience.
A stupid old "joke" best embodies my growing attitude:
Why did the moron keep banging his head against the wall?
"Because it feels so GOOD when I STOP!"
It may be that "STOPPING" is the only satisfaction we can or WILL ever ultimately GET from this Coach's complex and compulsive approach to what amounts to his endless pursuit of that very "Perfection".
