Cornerback Marcus Roberson has been an impact freshman for Florida this season with 22 tackles and an interception. Unfortunately for the Gators, Roberson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a neck injury against South Carolina this past Saturday. “We’re still evaluating him, but our medical staff has informed me that he will…

Read about this in flash-text from Gator Zone earlier today--couldn't BELIEVE we lost another 1st stringer this way, and STILL can't quite get over how much this continues to be a "bad luck season". I haven't said that before, don't LIKE to even go down the self-pity/make-excuses road, you know? But I think it is accurate, AND late enough in the season to stop worrying about things like "how it sounds"--to ourselves, to others, or whether it offers an "out" to the players. At this point, they all can see it as well as we can, the "good ones" will go on stolidly and, if anything, work harder; the rest, well, if they were looking for excuses or reasons to "let up" that was already happening in most cases--if Coach Boom is able to identify a few more it's all to the good (if "good" is the word--anyway, we don't need or want the quitters, OR the ones who are just out for themselves).
As for Roberson himself, his season-ender won't HELP us win the rest of the way, obviously, but as long as he recovers fully from it, we DO get to look at and work the backups, which will either help with depth, or show us that we can't count on THESE guys. Roberson has been up and down as a player, showing flashes of the talent that made him a valued prospect, but he has had some crucial misses and generally poor play as well--seeing other young men prospering in his place, and/or new recruits brought in that can fill those positions in the spring could have a sobering motivational effect on him.

Just found this, so there is some hope.

Help does appear on its way for next season. UF will sign a class of at least 23 players in February. That should fill the majority of the scholarship void, as the team only loses 11 seniors. The Gators, who already have 17 commitments, are also in position to land arguably the best haul of offensive and defensive linemen in the country.
UF has a pledge from Mallard Creek (N.C.) offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, considered by Rivals.com to be the nation’s best at his position. UF is also in the mix for three uncommitted five-star defensive ends.

Good link--thanks...been following this process with quiet, growing hope over the last few weeks--part of what has given me a certain confidence that things may well be about to start falling into place. They still have to "finish", but they know that and are out for MORE...in addition to those 3 "big ones" they are still going after on defense, there are several "committed BUT..."-recruits, all playmakers on offense, that are not as solid for our rivals as seemed even a few short weeks ago, our clear needs at their positions and the promise that they'll have a real shot at playing for Weis in a pro-style offense their freshman years making us the soul possible alternative. Finally, there are several lesser-known, raw-but-promising ones that may end up here,"one way or another" (call it "creative recruiting"--a combination of an unusually large number of openings, and a willingness for various reasons on certain young mens' parts to choose a less-guaranteed course if it gives them a shot at catching on at a program like UF).
Another thing that I like: by all accounts, it has not been just raw talent and athleticism that has been an important criteria in settling on this staff's targets-for-recruitment since they got here. There has been a strong focus on what kind of guys the potential recruits are, their family and backgrounds, and making sure THEY understand there is "a Florida Way" that Coach Muschamp and Co. are intent on building and maintaining, and that this cuts both ways--they and their families are assured that if they come fully committed, they "will have a HOME here". That "continuity" and "settling in" you talk about is just as important on the roster as it is on the staff: it just has to be constantly renewed.
