Sad but expected especially with Floyd. At least he won't have to worry about the NCAA anymore. If Easley and Reed also jump then I'm worried especially with Easley. When it rains it pours.

The decommitment and NFL draft declarations were actually announced before the game. That softened the blow for the postgame drinking. Don't panic yet. Alabama's 2009 Sugar Bowl loss to Utah did not positively or negatively affect recruiting. Kids find any reason they want to commit or decommit. The bowl game actually on the bottom of most recruit listings of criteria.

Reed unofficially declared for the Draft. I bet Easley leaves. This can be a good thing. We have 24 commitments, but 29 "requirements" or open scholarships. Gator Country thinks this class will pull in 29. My guess is 25, but I do not have the resources of GC.

My ASSumption is that Jelani is will stay unless a doctor says he is 100% before January 15.

Here is an interesting argument that losing the Sugar Bowl is a good thing: http://www.gatorcountry.com/football/article/16929.

In summary: a Big East team beating a strong defense and one-dimensional running game is a wake-up call that the Gators need to go back to the drawing board next year and tweak the Gator formula. Or else.

Post script: the Gators lose two All Americans and ten average players. The purge of lackluster or ill-fitted players is nearly complete.

If Driskel does not improve, somebody will take his job. It's a Gator eat Gator world. Driskel is good, but if he is not the best QB on the team in the spring, then the best man will earn the job. With good receivers or the crap we have seen the past few years, no QB has an excuse to stare down only one receiver or hold onto the ball that long. Not in big boy football. Not for a soon to be junior with 12 games as a starter.

Hate to say I told you so, but... the recruits have not been affected by the Sugar Bowl loss. Here are their opinions straight from Twitter the night of the loss and a couple days later. You can see that some are standing by their future team and are even fighting their own social media flamewars. Some of them are catching flak at one of the All American games going on. Yes, some are immature kids that will de-commit on a whim, but give some of them credit for being loyal, mature, or even playfully immature albeit dedicated.

I talk to UF_DC3(cummings) on Twitter all the time, he has no aspirations on leaving and with the attitude he has, he'll fill Floyds spot with good results. That guy is humble and motivated, and people with Commit/De commit regardless of wins or losses. Right now, Muschamp has a beacon set for the Top Defensive turnaround in a program. Kids across the country know that the Gator D is and will be a force to reckon with next year, and they want a part of it.

End result, Coach Boom will turn the Sugar Bowl loss into a tool for off-season motivation. He turns 2 star players into 4 star beasts, and Pease will figure out a scheme that works in the SEC. I'm expecting a renewed QB battle coming into 2013 with Top Level HS talent coming into Florida. I think Driskel will turn things around and if not, Brisset will be on his heels for the job.

another thing ..

we gave Louisville 109 yards via Penalties
also gave them 14 points
- one via tipped pass (NEVER tip)
- one via onside kick

We still beat the shit out of them, I dunno how many dudes are probably still having dreams about getting hit by Elam. It's kinda like, we won the fight but also caught the assault charge lol.

we'll be back in 2013, chasing a title.

Elam and Floyd are expected to go 1st round, what you talking about?

Watch the UA game on ESPN right now, Gator future is looking good. Especially with Hargreaves, dude is a beast

Before declaring for the draft before mid-January, each interested draft entrant gets a screening for potential. If the athlete likes the initial screening, then he is free to get an agent. He may have not been scouted at 1st round, but Jordan Reed was satisfied with whatever his reading was. Maybe that was 2nd-3rd round. It is his call.

I heard that Hargreaves was UA MVP. I have limited Internet access now, so I cannot check.

yea he is easily MVP, shut down coverage, 1 INT, and good reaction to run plays with solid open field tackles.

We're gonna be fine, long-term...So far, the two All Americans are our 2 hardest-to-replace--and EXPECTED ones at that. The rest are replaceable IMMEDIATELY with "AS good and-going-to-be-better". Take Reed: He HAS "potential", but he hasn't really reached it yet--and in a way, in bailing now, on a certain naked personal level he is admitting that maybe he never WILL--an attitude that we DON'T need OR want (along with that habit he has of jumping unnecessarily and, in that and other ways, taking himself OUT of prime-position to make-the-catch--then MISSING it ANYWAY, "gator-chomping" WAY too may passes right through his hands all season). KEE-Ryest!: Between unrealized-potential among our receivers, and all the penalties NEGATING the plays that WERE called and set-up right, that's maybe 50 of our hundred places-down in "offensive-rating" right THERE).
Let's see how it all shakes out at the "end" (ie. NSD), what we've got at that point, then (hopefully) what players AND coaches have learned about themselves , their jobs as individuals AND as a TEAM by the time we get from there to "The Orange and Blue Revue" (can't we just go back to "the Spring Game"?!!), then turn it and THEM all over to the capable hands and guidance of our SUPERB "Strength & Conditioning Guru".
I really meant that above: We're going to be OK--quite possibly a whole lot BETTER than THAT...

With good receivers or the crap we have seen the past few years, no QB has an excuse to stare down only one receiver or hold onto the ball that long. Not in big boy football. Not for a soon to be junior with 12 games as a starter.
Look, as I said elsewhere, I'm a Driskel-GUY--but if I were Jacoby Brisset, I'd think about staying. Driskel's still the designated-starter going into next season, but with the seeming DEEPENING of his poorer-tendencies (though he wasn't alone in THAT) in New Orleans, with next-year's better crop of receivers and presumably more wide-open and imaginative offense from Pease (whose OWN rep is on the line here, too, after all, and who therefore won't HESITATE to go with another QB who just SEIZES the role, if one did), the spotlight AND pressure will be on Driskel to respond and excell, to continue the upward, accelerated improvement he showed through the middle of this past season. In fact, this is EXACTLY the kind of "pressure-cooker-environment" that can tell everyone, coaches, teammates and fans, if he really IS "the Man" who can and will lead us where we must go...or he wilts for all to see, and changes must be made sooner rather than later--as in "TOO-late", and another year wasted. That cannot be allowed to happen.
I support JD, WANT him to succeed, still sure he has the talent and moxie to do so, and I do NOT lay this debacle at his feet--but his "weaknesses of youth", that we are counting on him to leave behind in his junior year, WERE on display in that last game, albeit along with a lot of the others that have plagued his teammates, as individuals AND as a team. He's GOT to leave them behind, PRONTO...The Coaches have got to give him every tool and opportunity necessary to do so, sure--but then HE has to make it all work. If that's too much for him, then he ISN'T the right guy after all. One more thing to watch, one more reason this is a big spring for this Gator team.

New update. Caleb Brantley @TheKidd34 just re-committed to Florida.
  • Florida's recruiting class is coming back together. @_thekidd34 Caleb Brantley is back on board. Likely moving back to #1 on ESPN recruiting.
According to Twitter, those Florida high school kids are recruiting one another. Once dead period is over today, expect some re-commitments, flips, and de-commitments until about January 15th when the NFL draft announcements are due, and again until February 6th.

As for the QB discussion, the 2012 season is over. Time for a new QB battle. May the best man win. Driskel did his best in 2012, but in 2013 he needs to be the best man for the job. Brissett's Twitter pages indicate that he will have a discussion with Will Muschamp and make a decision whether or not to transfer this spring. Classes begin on Monday, so I expect some news on Monday. If we hear nothing from Brissett on Monday, then assume that Muschamp opened up the starting position for battle amongst Driskel, Brissett, Mornhinweg, Staver, and Murphy. If anyone does not like the results of spring practice, then I expect a transfer in April. May the best Gator win.
