As of this writing the Gators have about 74 scholarship players for next year plus 7 TBDs for a total of about 81 scholarships. This leaves room for 4 more transfer portal athletes. Of the 81 potential returnees, the Gators could return a maximum of 25 starters (11 on offense, 14 on defense) or 46 players with some experience. They will have 35 players with no experience in this offensive or defensive system.

I suppose the relatively large "no experience" tally is the most worrisome part...Probably to be expected after everything that recent history has brought our way, though.
One more reason (among several HUGE ones) that point to another tough road in 2024. I still say a winning record would be damn near miraculous. For the moment. I will leave it to others to consider (and ultimately forecast) what the consequences will likely be...But the results themselves should come as no surprise. I don't know that even the best recruiting class in history would have greatly changed those circumstances ...As it is, though, I suppose it will all come down to how things evolve on the field--not just in '24 but beyond into 2025, which for better or for worse will have to be some sort of "Pay Off Year", at least a clear "big step forward" if Billy is to survive. HOPE will undoubtedly have HAD to have returned to Gator Nation by then.

Going position by position, the Gators just need depth at QB. Miller's injuries put his status into question. A good team will always have a minimum of 3 scholarship QBs capable of starting a game.

Napier already backfilled Ricky Pearsall with Chimere Dike, who was Graham Mertz's receiver at Wisconsin. Tre Wilson has a year under his belt and should know the route tree sufficiently to not be used as a gimmick receiver. Andy Jean and Aidan Mizell will be speedy backups to complement Tre Wilson. If I had to guess which freshman will make an impact I think it will be Tank Hawkins.

The departure of Trevor Etienne does hurt the running back room. Cam Carroll might not return, which opens up opportunities for either Jadan Baugh or Kahnen Daniels.

For once the tight end room looks good at the top but could use some depth thanks to the departure of a couple backup tight ends. This should be Arlis Boardingham's breakout year.

I like your seeming "relative optimism", E--.
You are definitely seeing things in terms of their upside potential, rather than crying about what we "woulda shoulda coulda" had.
Here's hoping Billy and Co. can "fill in a few MORE holes" using those four remaining spots through the transfer portal.
Even so, I find myself with little idea of what to expect in the early going come next season...but for now, I will follow your lead and TRY to "relax and let the results come to US".
For the moment, though, I must tell you that CFB officiating, rule changes and general play here in the 2023 post-season continue to put me off to such a degree that at this point (pre-New Years!) I have more or less LOST INTEREST: I'm not even watching the latest games here this weekend leading up to the playoffs, and I fear this may be my growing attitude towards the whole sport in its latest guise...Maybe it only needs an eventual return of the UF program to relevance--but I USED to follow the sport and the big post season bowls even when UF was NOT at the top.
That just isn't the case for me now. Not even with folks sending me comments on plays and outcomes referring to things I also happen to note-in-passing while clicking around online...
But: I. JUST. DON'T. CARE.
Maybe it is just a passing phase.
