"Just when it looked like it might be turning into a quiet and disappointing second round for the Gators, Florida's bookend defensive ends went back-to-back in the NFL Draft on Friday night, followed a little later in the round by All-America middle linebacker Brandon Spikes.
Boom.
The New England Patriots selected Jermaine Cunningham in the round with the 53rd overall selection.
Boom.
Less than 90 seconds later, the Cincinnati Bengals picked up Carlos Dunlap with the 54th pick.
A little later in the round it got even better, with Spikes getting drafted by the Patriots with the 62nd pick.
Just like that, UF's number of drafted players in the first two rounds jumped to six, a school record and the most in this draft. The Gators had three taken in the first round Thursday night — cornerback Joe Haden, center Maurkice Pouncey and quarterback Tim Tebow.
The UF school record for players taken in one draft is 10 (1978). The Gators have a chance to catch and surpass that mark in the final four rounds today."
