(Watch "them" give Napier credit for "keeping it close"...when in truth this is thus far another game we SHOULD be winning HANDILY.
And WTF is with Lagway? Yeah, clearly Napier and Co. handled his "recovery and rehab" (from whatever he was truly suffering) poorly and wrongly, but at SOME point we'd expect to see general progress--and at the very LEAST some of what dazzled EVERYONE as an injured freshman suddenly forced into the QB-1 role--one in which he EXCELLED, and went "6-1 against top-ranked competition, 6-0 as a STARTER!"
I doubt I can watch the rest of this.
Either we lose, or we barely win one that shows FLAWS, NOT STRENGTHS--and I now believe only prolongs our misery.)

@Leakfan12,
(...since you earlier mentioned it, and having seen enough of THIS game as a sort of "response to MY latest analysis and questions", MY "first gut-level reaction", "if we could really get ANYONE" choice right now would be:
Dan Lanning.
But of course we haven't even really BEGUN that dreaded process yet...It is, however, undoubtedly coming closer...realistically weeks? DAYS?
Our Coach certainly isn't doing, doesn't even appear to recognize the NEED TO DO, ANY of the things that are so badly NEEDED in order to give his team the CHANCE (his PLAYERS CHANCES) to turn this thing around.)

The story HERE is a summation of these last 4-plus seasons:
WE LOSE, BECAUSE BILLY JUST DOESN'T GET IT.

Everything you heard about the fighting Napiers in the preseason was a lie.

I suppose that rather than continuing to shoot off my mouth, I'd be better served awaiting, eventually CONSIDERING Escambia's inevitably more complete picture of the many candidates' positive and negative features.
However, I do not see much reason to qualify the need to BEGIN WEIGHING those "positives" and "negatives" any longer:
This HAS to be Billy Napier's last season, in my view his FINAL WEEKS, as our COACH.
Given the politics and confusion at the top of the program, indeed the INSTITUTION'S top leadership, it is hard to say exactly when and HOW it will all play out--THAT continues to play a part in how we even GOT here!
But that doesn't change our abject NEED for change--and THIS time proper and thoughtful consideration given to how, who and why we identify and determinedly go AFTER.
We HAVE to GET IT RIGHT this time.
So the parameters not just for THAT job, BUT ALSO that of next University President AND the next AD may have to be settled FIRST.
In the meantime THIS season is (unofficially at least) already basically "OVER", and the sooner we can address the above "preliminaries", no matter how important and requiring their OWN clarity, precision and finesse, getting them done and DONE RIGHT is required preliminary to finding and SIGNING the new Gator Football Coach.
In the meantime, things COULD get pretty ugly around here...

Meanwhile, we have a "dependably .500" Coach.
Hey, Strickland! Now that you've hit US up for the big bucks, maybe you can and SHOULD go somewhere that thinks ".500 is GOOD enough"!
We sure don't want you playing any PART in choosing or hiring the NEXT guy...

Yes, I suppose--in isolation, outside the wider context of Week 3, following that Week 2 loss to USF, in a once much-anticipated season already quickly spiraling downwards and outta control...
But the inescapeable fact is that we just saw our Coach AGAIN coach himself and his own TEAM out of another potential WIN and right into another frustrating "close loss".
What Gator can keep suffering THROUGH this sort of thing over and OVER again?
Time to change the song's lyric TO
"I Won't . Back . This . Clown..." (???)

Sigh...
Maybe not.
We're probably way PAST light-hearted jokes to ease the pain.
I know I am...
We need something in the way of "dramatic, large-scale CHANGES".
I'M far from the only one who has begun to propose them.
In the meantime, it appears we are STUCK:
Mired in relentless mediocrity on the endless treadmill that the preceeding parade of stubborn and essentially inflexible would-be Head Coaches have mired us IN, let's face it.
No solution from ME here--just stating the obvious.
Sorry.
For the moment, that's all I got.
I sure as hell hope there IS something MORE in the way of "an answer" on the way, though.
Here, we let off steam...
But somewhere "out there" something MORE MUST be barreling down the mythical "TRACK"!
Like it or not, whatever it is, it's COMING.
Either we somehow choose our destiny, or it will be chosen FOR us.
Yeah--I don't like the sound of that either.
