Florida coach Urban Meyer remembers the meeting well.
As an ambitious young, assistant coach at Colorado State, Meyer had established a relationship with Skip Holtz, the son of then-iconic Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz.
In 1995, Lou Holtz was looking for a receivers coach. Skip introduced Meyer to his dad that year at a coaches conference, and the two talked while eating breakfast at the hotel lobby.
"I sat down and had breakfast with Lou Holtz, who did not want to have breakfast with Urban Meyer," Meyer said. "We hit it off pretty good."
Meyer sold himself enough to become receivers coach at Notre Dame, continuing his rise toward becoming a BCS championship head coach with the Gators. On Saturday, Meyer faces the man responsible for his first big coaching break. Skip Holtz, in his first year as head coach at USF, will bring the Bulls to Gainesville to face Meyer's Gators.....................
