The Gators had 10 players in the 2023 NFL Draft, with 5 being drafted and 4 being signed. 3 of 8 former Gators have been signed.

Richardson becomes the 15th Gator chosen in the top 10 in the common draft era, the 7th to be selected in the top 5, and the first UF quarterback picked in the top 10 since Steve Spurrier went third overall in 1967. The last Florida quarterback drafted in the first round was Tim Tebow (25th) in 2010.

For comparison, the Georgia Bulldogs had 12 players in the draft plus 2 former players (including former Gator Brenton Cox). 10 of 12 Bulldogs have signed with a team and 1 of 2 former players have signed. Alabama had all 14 of its players drafted.

All of the Gators who were drafted were selected at or above their talent ranking, although it was odd to see O’Cyrus Torrence taken as late as he was. It is possible there was bias against him for playing most of his time at a smaller school like Louisiana before making an impact on a 6-6 Florida team.

The data shows that Florida still has a larger talent pipeline than Georgia, but the latter has better talent. Alabama still has the largest and most talented pipeline between college and the NFL, but Georgia is catching up. In terms of all-time history, Florida is still one of four schools to have a player drafted each year of the modern draft era dating back half a century. Florida is also sixth-best all-time in terms of producing first round NFL draft picks, and ninth-best all-time in producing NFL talent.

For Torrence, don't know if I want to go that far. He still faced off against tough competition in 2022. Plus guards aren't top 10 picks for the most part. Yes, there have been expectations including guys who went to the Colts like A-Rich's teammate Nelson. Also, the GM of the Eagles is a Gator undergrad and he keeps drafting Bulldogs.
