David Galloway came to Gainesville as a one of its greatest all-around athletes, having lettered in football, basketball, and track in high school, and already at 6'3", 225 pounds. David played defensive end for Doug Dickey's and Charley Pell's Florida Gators from 1978 to 1981, where he was part of the NCAA's one-year turnaround in wins between 1979 and 1980. In that 1980 season, he was 2nd team All SEC and honorable mention All American, but in his senior season he had 1st team All SEC and Consensus All American honors. He finished his career with 21 quarterback sacks, which at the time was the Gator all-time record (broken by his teammate Wilber Marshall only two years later). He is currently 7th in all-time sacks. David was taken in the 2nd round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and went on to play ten years in the NFL. He is a member of the University of Florida Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a Gator Great.

Bonus trivia: David lost both of his parents before he was ten years old and was raised by his older siblings. In high school, he was the state leader in basketball dunks, and was amongst the top in the state for football interceptions and sacks, and track and field discus and shot put.
