Screw You, Grier

I am tired of this exact kind of crap. In the world, in general, in sports in particular, and of course to US, the Florida Gators as prime and repeated example. So tired, so angry and sick of it ALL--well, I've already had much to say about his decision to transfer, its context and implications, over in "Football Recruiting 2016" in a reply to Escambia94's comments regarding current recruiting prospects in general and at QB in particular, I have said enough for now I think. I need to go away, cool down, get away from all of it. Just don't KNOW when I'll be back, ready to move on with clear eyes, full heart blah blah blah. God, I am pissed. Let's see what actually happens come NSD and after, see what we got, for real. (And meanwhile, more than ever, I have amazingly little interest in our bowl game...Glad we get the practice time for all our young guys, along with the continued visibility that no doubt helps on the recruiting trail...but OUTCOME? Let's face facts, aside from the aforementioned benefits, Everything but the Playoff is now just "Exhibition Season".)

We will be fine with Franks. I am glad Will is gone, it makes life much easier in Gainesville this year.

We will have a QB starting who can play and his name will not be Treon that is for sure.

I liked Grier, but now is the time to move on. This frees up a scholarship slot for an athlete that consults with the staff before taking over the counter supplements.

Luke Del Rio, Feleipe Franks, and Kyle Trask will not have to worry about Grier taking practice snaps from them. May the best man win.

One hand, I am upset as well but let's face it by the time he would have been reinstated the Gators would hopefully by set in the quarterback and I doubt Coach Mac would have Grier back as the starter especially Grier would be very rusty.

I think per UFAA rules, Grier would have to work his way back as a non-scholarship walk-on any way. Grier have to sit out for seven games, pay for spring, summer, and fall classes on his own, and learn the offense without taking away valuable practice snaps from Del Rio, Franks, and Trask (notice that I omitted Harris). Grier would have been very rusty.

According to one of many stories Newsbot posted, he still has to serve his punishment after his redshirt transfer year. So he won't be able to play until halfway through the 2017 season.

True. By leaving UF, he tacked on another one-year delay onto his return to football in addition to the one-year suspension. No matter whether he transfers to a Division I, Division II, or Division III school, he must serve the NCAA one-year suspension. Most fans focus on the football aspect of the suspension, but they forget about the scholarship part. Will Grier will not have an NCAA scholarship paying for college classes until his suspension has been served, which means he will be a walk-on player paying for his own college classes no matter where he goes. If he would have stayed at UF, the coaches would have allowed him to practice as a walk-on and keep his skills sharp and compete for playing time around October 2016. By transferring elsewhere, he will need to find a school that will let him practice without a scholarship, and will likely treat him as if he has no shot to start until 2017. Unless Grier transfers to Podunk College, he is not going to start on any team until 2017. If he had stayed at UF, he would have had a shot to take back the starting position in late 2016. His only way to start on day 1 in 2016 would be to transfer to a Canadian college.
