The Senate honored 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow on Thursday morning with a resolution that praised his “athletic, academic and other achievements.”
Aside from being a threat both with the pass and the run, Tebow posted a 3.6 GPA at the University of Florida and has done missionary work in the Phillipines.
One of his latest achievements seems to have been making state senators blush. As he entered the chamber, they cheerfully crowded around him and posed for pictures.
Sen. Jim Wise of Jacksonville gushed, “What a guy,” while wearing a blue baseball cap with a Superman shield with a “T” on it instead of an “S.”
Tebow gushed back: “Wow, it’s an honor to be here…. To meet all of you, it’s a dream come true.”
He said there are lots of role models in football “but not a lot of good role models.”
“Football is a means to an end, and that ends for me is to be a role model.”
Senate President Ken Pruitt gave Tebow a “Medallion of Excellence,” which he said is the highest citizens honor the Senate can bestow.
