If your kid was offered a scholarship by a rival

Let's say it were your son who was trying to choose between FSU, UGA, or dare I say......UT. As a father (or mother), how would you handle it if he were leaning towards playing for one of the "other" schools........and possibly wearing that school's jersey when he plays?

The only way I would accept my son going to a rival is if that's the only place giving him a full ride. Though you can't fully tell your son you're going to Florida (keep in mind you're not the only one making that decision for you son).

Even though I would obviously have input to the decision, I think it is ultimately the kid's choice where they are going to play ball. That would be unless I saw something shady going on.

Would I want them to go to UF? Absolutely! But if there was a better option for my kid I would not discourage it.

If they were going to major in a "real" program, I would give input as to not go to certain schools based on their performance in a given program. No offense to those majoring in Sports Management. :D I am just joking! ;)

I remember reading about some FSU recruit that was going to go there based on getting the best education. He went to FSU over UF and many other schools known for much better academics the past year or two. He was not going into a program that FSU was known for and he got drilled on message boards. I forget his name though.

Easy - it's my child's life and therefore her/his decision. I'd support them no matter what.

Of course they'd know my preference, but they have the final word.

The parent can have input, but let the kid go where he wants. Parents who were big-time athletes at these universities usually want the kid to go somewhere else, because they want the kid to make his own name.

And that is a good thing!

But, I would love to see UF families have their kids go to UF. But it should ultimately be the best choice for the kid.

Go Gators!

Yeah, I have one boy at UF and one boy at UCF..... being a 'hole wasn't even a thought.... pretty funny in the sense I told them to fill out all the in state university apps and play it out. They didn't even bring home let alone apply to any fswho or canethang nonsense....

I guess all those years of sitting on my lap and eventually their own season tix at the swamp paid off for me..... didn't even have to voice my disdain for those rivals..... naturally seeded in their blood!

I dont have any kids (im in college) but if the rival teams and universities are all like and worse than South Carolina, my kid wouldn't be in his right mind if he went anywhere else other than Florida!

if i was the kid: beg and plead florida to let me on the team for at least a partial scholarship... if UF is not availabe then i would consider georgia or tenn, but fsu and miami are out of the question

if i was the parent: hold a huge press conference in my house with my kid not knowing, and publicly announce that he chooses to play for UF... even if UF didn't offer lol

The decision is all up to them. As long as they are wanting to get a higher education thats all that matters. But of course I would try to sway the towards UF.
