Yes, you have come to the right place:
This is where you come now with your panic-stricken concerns regarding players, squads and overall play in the aftermath of last night's game to open the 2019 College Football Season vs. the Miami Hurricanes.
First off, "YES": The whole TEAM looked bad at various times. No matter how you viewed it, rationalized or squinted your eyes, it seemed damn hard to recognize a "Top Ten" Team in ANY way, shape or form among the young men dressed in Orange and Blue.
We've already gotten a pretty fair head start on what I am expecting HERE, on my purpose and intent in posting this thread here now...It's for Y'ALL to vent, elaborate and/or go on at length regarding the details of our apparent self-delusions coming INTO this season, from the point of view of what we THOUGHT we had goin' as this season got under way. I expect the same people who were there last night, those Gators I KNOW thought they had a realistic and clear-eyed impression of a young program "on the rise" entering the 2019 season with at the very LEAST the basic tools and overall POTENTIAL TO BEGIN THE FIRST OF WHAT I expected WERE LIKELY TO BE THE FIRST OF A STRING OF SEVERAL "Necessary Opportunities" to give VOICE TO ALL OF THAT AND MORE.
Or not. Maybe I'm wrong--in which case, no harm done, I figure.
But I don't think so. I know I needed it last night, at minimum. And I sure as HELL am anxious and curious to hear your frustrations, even more so your "deepest DARKESTS" NOW, after the fact, once and for all, in the ruins of "the light of day", so to speak. That Who song from "Tommy" comes to mind; "We're Not Gonna TAKE it!" whispers underneath as the chorus starts to build. But be careful--this kind of anger can grab hold and take you places you don't necessarily really wanna go. The "mob mentality" combines with "fan is short for "FANATIC"--and before you know it, a dream is in ruins.
Cooler heads must prevail, be given voice in the end. But there IS a time and place for VENTING too--and that's what I'm offering space and place for HERE, inviting y'all to take advantage in any way that you see fit and/or are inclined to USE it!

Well, maybe still early...but meanwhile I have a coupla complaints, anyway:
The first is a general observation and comment on BAD TACKLING. GEEZ, that was a major problem and sad display last night by our defense in this regard. We've seen rashes of such breakdowns in fundamentals before--but I don't recall such a sustained stretch of WAVES of outright WHIFFS as we saw from the Gator defense last night. Like, 3, 4, 5 misses on the same play, classic "Matador technique" ("Olay!" as one by one ANOTHER Gator misses or hits but doesn't wrap up a runner) turning a stop in the backfield into a long TD! To say "They have work to do" is a massive understatement.
My other complaint concerns officiating. The only thing consistent about it last night was how arbitrary and uneven it seemed to be the whole night. Now, I DON'T include that last sequence when our secondary repeatedly gave them new life on 4th-and-longs by repeatedly getting flagged for Pass Interference: THAT was dumb-ass play, ignorant strategy and overall poor coaching--and it still amazes me that it didn't cost us the game, "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" after everything ELSE as we literally stopped the clock and ESCORTED them down the field...Ironically, SMART coaching and superb defensive play was the only thing that subsequently saved us, as Grantham's classic Blitz/no Blitz game worked perfectly and finally buried them at the very end.
Finally, I gotta note all those weird broken plays and fumbles THROUGHOUT the game. What can you say? In fact, for the most part all I'm GOING to say here is that, as elsewhere (far too many "elsewheres"!), "We have a LOT of work to do..."
No, the only supposed Gator miscue I will actually focus on here is the one that WASN'T--that SECOND supposed "fumble": It was clearly recovered by us. What left me baffled was not simply how the officials got that wrong, MISSED the simple fact that a Gator had possession of the ball, was KNEELING over it, the ball cradled under him, in his possession with BOTH KNEES ON THE GROUND for crying out loud, but somehow OUR OWN COACHES MISSED IT, NEVER GOT THE WORD OR WHATEVER--and everyone let play go on while the announcers tried vainly (and rather idiotically, btw) to explain it all away ("Well, it wasn't in his possession for long enough..." READ THE RULES, JERK! But the officials evidently hadn't bothered, I guess, so why should they?). I'm STILL waiting for SOMEONE to discuss that.
But all in all, the phrase, "We got work to do..." has seldom held more truth after an opener--let alone a WINNING one!

My biggest complaints:
  1. Poor tackling
  2. Bad angles
  3. Bad zone read/ RPO exchange
  4. No coach's challenge on key plays

So: Basically a dry and general reprise of MY complaints. A more hopeful interpretation would be to note that "these appear to ALL be problems that are correctable"--once observed, acknowledged and addressed, with time and hard work.
I think we can COUNT on all of those with and from this Coach and staff. I'm beginning to wonder about this "TEAM", though: How and why are we left with these kinds of problems, in extremis, at the start of a new Season and AFTER MONTHS of choosing, assessing and training the particular collection of individuals that comprise that team--and yet STILL find ourselves with so much glaringly obvious yet to address???
While thankful that we find ourselves here with a victory, rather than an embarrassing loss under our collective belts, the fact remains that while we at least are now clearly aware of the work remaining to be done, basically we now have just a coupla WEEKS to begin to adequetely address them, whereas we failed to manage it with MONTHS at our disposal.
Still: Now we KNOW--an infinite improvement on confident ignorance.
That's a huge step forward; Perhaps there is SOME cause for hope after all.

Good news is we play a weaker team in G-Ville next game.
Lol Yeah--It isn't lost on me that our ACTUAL "Home Opener" SHOULD be closer to the kind of inaugural sacrificial beat-down you like to see as a schedule gets under way. However, this much is clear: in no way should we EXPECT muscle-flexing dominance, nor overinflate the implications of the result, regardless of its one-sidedness should it indeed turn out that way.
We have been forewarned of our flaws, and now at least have time and reason to urgently foreARM ourselves in preparation. We damn well better be a WHOLE lot better, on BOTH sides of the line of scrimmage, by the time we hit the meat of our SEC schedule.
