Young commercial cleared by UF

A commercial involving Florida junior center Patric Young was cleared by school compliance in advance and will not result in self-reporting any NCAA violations.
Young appeared in the commercial for the Providence School, a private Christian high school in Jacksonville. He was not in his UF uniform. Young attended Providence in his senior year of high school before enrolling at UF.
Under NCAA rules, student athletes are not permitted to be involved in the advertisement, endorsement or promotion of a commercial product or service of any kind. However, there are exceptions for institutional, charitable, education or nonprofit promotions. Under those exceptions, Young had to receive written permission from UF before the commercial aired and all money derived from the activity had to go directly to the educational or nonprofit entity.
UF spokesman Denver Parler said Young received permission from school athletic department officials before the commercial aired.
Young is one of three starters returning from a Florida team that finished 26-11 and reached the Elite Eight for the second straight season. He averaged 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Florida begins practice Oct. 13 and its preseason opener is Nov. 1 at the O’Connell Center against Nebraska-Kearney.
