Jacob Copeland of Escambia High School (Go Gators!) was the top-rated athlete in the recruiting class of 2018. So far he is performing about the same for Maryland as he did at Florida. His presence at Florida is sorely missed. UMD head coach Mike Locksley recruited Cope back when he was the co-OC and wide receiver coach at Alabama, so it is understandable why he was able to lure Cope away from Florida. Current WRC, Gunter Brewer, coached Biletnikoff Award winners Randy Moss, Justin Blackmon, and Biletnikoff finalist Dez Bryant. Currently, UMD has the #35 total offense (31 TDs, 242 PTS, 34.6 PPG). Meanwhile, Florida is #56 (29 TDs, 220 PTS, 31.4 PPG).

Emory Jones was the crown jewel of Dan Mullen's first recruiting class at Florida. Mullen first recruited Emory when he was at Mississippi State. Once Mullen took over at Florida, he immediately snatched EJ from Ohio State. Emory's stats at Arizona State are slightly down from his time at Florida, which is understandable given the turmoil over there. The situation has definitely become much worse at ASU since Napier was the offensive coordinator and QB coach there under Todd Graham in 2017. The ASU offense is #81 in the nation (19 TDs, 161 PTS, 26.8 PPG).

Ty'Ron Hopper was the 4th-highest rated recruit in the class of 2019--right behind Chris Steele, Kaiir Elam, and Khris Bogle, and just ahead of Keon Zipperer, Mohamoud Diabate, Arjei Henderson. Diwun Black, and Deyavie Hammond. Steele transferred before the season started while facing potential legal troubles in Gainesville. Bogle and Diabate later transferred along with him after Mullen left. Henderson, Black, and Hammond failed to qualify academically, but Black did make his way back to Florida after going to JUCO. Elam looks to have promising career in the NFL. Zipperer is okay at Florida and could be a free agent in the NFL. This class was a mess, but Hopper did rather well here and is doing better at Missouri. Halfway through the 2022 season he has is on track to double many of his stats. He is currently the leading tackler in the SEC and is #3 in TFL.

Khris Bogle is getting by at Michigan State. Transferring did not help him at all, and he has only played in half the games this season.

Mohamoud Diabate is also struggling at his new school. His claim to fame in 2022 is getting juked out of his jock strap by Anthony Richardson on national television. His production is down significantly at Utah.

Most of these guys, however talented, in truth well illustrate exactly the kinds of spoiled, over-hyped, delusionally self-absorbed babies whose character deficiencies (rather than actual skill level) are what exemplified their play AND overall team devopment when they were here--and unfortunately, so far little of that has changed (let alone been improved) by who is left to actually play on gamedays thus far!
Your rant of a coupla days back well describes this situation...Presumably, Billy's efforts at an eventual wholesale changeover, in effect the long run as needed REPLACEMENT of the BULK of our roster ASAP over the next few seasons is a key part of "The Plan" to fix what ails us!

Look at this another way: Copeland, Jones, and Hopper were our best recruits to transfer and they are doing the same or worse on their new teams (except maybe Hopper). Imagine how shitty the athletes are that stayed behind. These assholes cannot tackle, cannot communicate pass coverages, and cannot complete a forward pass—and we are surprised that these jackwagons are 4-3? What the heck was Napier supposed to do? Sprinkle magic fairy dust on these losers? I am glad they stay out of legal trouble, unlike their predecessors over the previous 20 years, but now that these fuckers are getting paid they need to do their job—without any NIL money from me.

Okay! At least you offer unshakeable, unvarnished evidence for where we are mired-- and WHY!
I know Billy can't exactly come out with a similarly stark dismissal of what he has inherited here (something like, "MAN--This bunch is stinking up the local mudlands worse than I THOUGHT they would!")...but by the same token, the general "happy talk" with which he so far approaches the weekly post game "back up, retrench, roll up our sleeves and START OVER" speech hasn't exactly helped to redirect our headlong plunge yet either. The MOST it MAY have accomplished is to somehow camouflage just how hopelessly inept we truly ARE:
If anything, this current manifestation of Gator football is WORSE than fans and media are so far generally saying! Perhaps, in this way, Billy hopes to buy himself, his staff and team-to-come more room and time to pull OFF this extensive rebuild!
(I GUESS I'm really just searching for some positive, long-term HOPE here in Hogtown.
I cannot FACE too many more "Tom Petty Days" like that one...)
