Way Too Early Predictions for 2026

A whole LOT of this kind of talk going around now:
Y’ALL know how this goes, AND why it GOES this way…
A new Coach and his seemingly outstandinng incoming staff. In this New Day of NIL, a “General Manager” shouldering the FINANCIAL responsibilities, a seeming actual “PLAN” in the pursuit of talent on BOTH the field AND the sidelines, and MORE…
Look, we’ve been sold a lot of “HOPE” the last decade-PLUS—and the LAST guy took that and “quiet decency” to a new level, his calm warnings of “time and patience” and his endless “non-promises” more or less “poisoning the well” for whomever, WHATever was going to have to follow if (WHEN!) it all crashed…
And here we are.
“All of the above” I think goes long in explaining how and why we had come around to, actually came to think/FEEL that Kiffen was the best, the ONLY “Answer”!
Jon Sumrall was something different, something else entirely; he arrived without apologies, just honesty and positivity—a double shot of both, and it was like a splash of cold water on our collective faces AND a long hot bath, both at the same TIME ever since.
And somehow, without apology and without any onfield “proof of concept” that “EVERYONE” was saying would HAVE TO “come first”, somehow THIS Coach (in contrast to Lane, by the way) was able to finish properly at his old job while retaining the talent Napier (in his one clear strength) had found and brought in the “five gems already on hand” that he rightly recognized he wasn’t likely to improve upon in the portal, then (with the help of GM, AD, boosters and “old Gators coming out of the woodwork”) managed to hire one of the best young and upcoming staffs in college football—and as the “Gator Train” (intentionally retooling the original expression) now continues to gather speed, YES: We ALL feel the sense of rising power being applied.
I’m not expecting any “Championship Run” this year…
In fact, I think at this point we’d settle for 8 wins that include at least ONE “signature Win”…Anything better than that would require a COUPLE of those kind of wins; looking at this schedule, at the moment I’m not ready to do anything more than “Wait’n’SEE”.
But just based on what we’ve seen and heard so far, it should be fun, it MIGHT be exciting, and it will DEFINITELY be “interesting”!

Analyzing the 2026 football season with a fresh coaching staff brings a lot of excitement. This staff brings excitement and enthusiasm despite not having played a game yet.

First, let's establish the mathematical baseline. In 2025, the Florida Gators averaged 21.58 Points Per Game (PPG) while giving up 24.00 Opponent PPG.

Applying a modest 20% improvement for the 2026 season under the new staff I predict the following:

**Week 1: vs. Florida Atlantic Owls**
* **Analysis:** Opening the season at the Swamp against a Group of Five opponent is the perfect environment for the new staff to establish its identity. The upgraded offense handles business comfortably.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 38, FAU 13

**Week 2: vs. Campbell Fighting Camels**
* **Analysis:** This FCS matchup allows the Gators to rotate players early. Campbell will struggle to cross midfield.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 48, Campbell 3

**Week 3: at Auburn Tigers**
* **Analysis:** The first true road test and an old-school SEC rivalry. Jordan-Hare Stadium is always hostile, but Florida's improved statistical defense keeps the Tigers in check in a tight, low-scoring battle.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 23, Auburn 17

**Week 4: vs. Ole Miss Rebels**
* **Analysis:** Ole Miss historically brings a lightning-fast offense. Even with a 20% defensive improvement, slowing down Lane Kiffin entirely is a tall task. The baseline swings toward a shootout, which the Rebels edge out late.
* **Score Prediction:** Ole Miss 31, Florida 26

**Week 5: at Missouri Tigers**
* **Analysis:** A tough road trip to Columbia. Missouri matches up well physically, but Florida's execution under the new coaching framework holds steady on the road to bounce back from the Week 4 loss.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 27, Missouri 20

**Week 6: vs. South Carolina Gamecocks**
* **Analysis:** Back home in Gainesville, the Gators' defense stifles the Gamecocks. Falling right in line with the team's seasonal average, the offense does more than enough to secure a comfortable win.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 26, South Carolina 13

**Week 7: at Texas Longhorns**
* **Analysis:** Heading to Austin is arguably the toughest road environment of the year. While Florida fought hard against Texas last season, the talent depth of the Longhorns on their home turf hands the Gators their second loss.
* **Score Prediction:** Texas 28, Florida 20

**Week 8: Bye Week**

**Week 9: vs. Georgia Bulldogs (Neutral Site - Atlanta)**
* **Analysis:** The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party heads to Atlanta for 2026. Rivalry games throw stats out the window, but Georgia remains an elite bar. The 20% improvement makes it a modern classic, but the Bulldogs squeak by.
* **Score Prediction:** Georgia 24, Florida 21

**Week 10: vs. Oklahoma Sooners**
* **Analysis:** The Sooners come to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Looking to rebound from consecutive losses, the Gators lean heavily on their home crowd and an improved rushing attack to outlast Oklahoma.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 27, Oklahoma 21

**Week 11: at Kentucky Wildcats**
* **Analysis:** Kentucky has historically played the Gators incredibly tough. However, looking at last year's standard performance, a 20% improvement across the board helps Florida exact revenge on a cold night in Lexington.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 24, Kentucky 16

**Week 12: vs. Vanderbilt Commodores**
* **Analysis:** The final home game of the season. The gap in statistical categories becomes glaringly obvious here as the new staff has the team clicking on all cylinders late in November.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 34, Vanderbilt 10

**Week 13: at Florida State Seminoles**
* **Analysis:** Rivalry week in Tallahassee. The Gators handled FSU convincingly last year (40-21), and even on the road, their 20% bolstered efficiency keeps the state championship trophy in Gainesville.
* **Score Prediction:** Florida 31, Florida State 20

### Season Summary
* **Projected Record:** 9–3 (5–3 SEC)
* **Closing Thoughts:** A fresh coaching staff positions the Gators as a legitimate top-15 team contending for a College Football Playoff at-large bid.
