Florida’s unranked women’s squad did exactly that, capping the SECs with a first-place finish for the first time since 2003 with 135.50 total points. Florida’s women also won five individual events.

One of the most impressive came from two-time national champion and Olympian Mariam Kevkhishvilli. The junior thrower shattered her NCAA-leading distance of 17.94m with her toss of 18.05m to take the shot put.

Jeff Demps carried a slight lead over LSU’s Trindon Holliday heading into the final leg and crossed the finish line just ahead of Holliday to give Florida the collegiate best in 2009 with a time of 38.74. It’s the third-fastest in school history.

Holliday redeemed himself after a 90-minute rain delay in the 100m, setting the collegiate best for the season with his 10.01 time.

Demps faltered during the 100, coming up lame with a hamstring injury. Holloway said he was unsure of the severity of Demps’ injury, but hopes to have him back for the national championships in June.
