Will Muschamp said Monday that a decision regarding the starting quarterback will be made next Monday, August 27th, prior to Gators' opening game against Bowling Green Sept. 1st.

Sophomores Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett have split reps in practice, including during Saturday's open-to-the-public practice.

A sweaty Muschamp entertained questions following Monday's practice:

Regarding Saturday's practice: Muschamp said it was "very sluggish, not acceptable."

On the depth chart: Muschamp and his staff spent Sunday going over the roster, and an official depth chart will be released next Monday.

Injuries: Junior defensive back Jeremy Brown is expected back Sept. 1st after suffering a broken bone in his wrist. D.J. Humphries is still expected to be out 2-3 weeks with an MCL knee injury. Freshman defensive back Marcus Maye has meniscus injury but no expected time frame for his return. Incoming freshman Colin Thompson will have foot surgery this week. Sophomore wide receiver Michael McNealy will have surgery Monday on his foot, he is expected to be out somewhere around 8 weeks, but no concrete timetable has been established.

On a starting defensive front: Muschamp said inside Sharrif Floyd, Omar Hunter, Damian Jacobs, Leon Orr "are four guys we can count on".. On the end Dominique Easley, Earl Okine, Jonathan Bullard will play. At Buck Lerentee McCray, Dante Fowler are there until Ronald Powell returns.

Muschamp breaks down his depth chart this way, "Bottom line is the guys who are being productive will play and those who aren't won't."

As expected Mike Gillislee will be the starting running back when the depth chart is released according to Muschamp as reported first by the Palm Beach Post. Freshman Matt Jones and sophomore Mack Brown will be next in the pecking order. At fullback Trey Burton is the starter with but Hunter Joyer will get carries along with Chris Johnson who has been converted from linebacker.

-WR Ja'Juan Story who redshirted his only season with the Gators in 2011, will transfer to TCU, reports the Tampa Bay Times

It's Brisset by default now, let's face it--no matter how Muschamp and Co. are trying to spin it. Let's hope the two of 'em really WERE "a toss up, both top grade starting QB-material" as claimed, 'cause I doubt Driskel will be back up to 100% until well into the season (that's my take on it, anyway--completely intuitive/reading between-the-lines, but that's gotta be more reliable than the double-talk we get from the team on such matters). Sigh...my trust and faith have been severely shaken by this last few weeks of daily-surprises, all bad...

I get the impression that this year will look a lot like last year, unless some studs emerge. This is the time for the 2010 recruiting class to shine, and for the others to be consistent and without injury.

And we'll find out real quick about the offense as opposed to last season when it was 2 non conferences teams first and then UT then Kentucky....This season it's Texas A&M Week 2 Sept. 8 in College Station...

You get the feeling that Bowling Green will be treated as an exhibition and that it's impossible not to look ahead to A&M....That may influence the decision as well as far as Driskel's time table.
