I started hearing about this one a day-and-a-half ago...The weird part being the multiple variations on what was wrong, how it happened, when the the coaches knew about it, etc. At this point, it seems there has been a developing/ongoing awareness of "a problem" with this kid's health for some time. The severity, and now finally the "worst-case scenario" decision for "season-ending surgery", is the main thing here: This young man, while well-along talent and awareness-wise and a potentially superb asset who they anticipate will eventually be able to "plug-in" anywhere on the D-line, would have been a possible red-shirt candidate in any event (though all those assets seemed to be making that less and less likely, if healthy). Still crappy news, but not "the sky is falling" stuff some versions intimated on first blush. Just trying to keep everyone (myself included) from going too far down the "OH NO NOT AGAIN!" road...
