JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Just in time to celebrate a pair of national champion teams, the University of Florida's specialty license plate is losing the words "national champions."
The Florida Gators are the first team in history to hold the national title in the two biggest college sports at the same time. They're national champions in basketball and national champions in football.
It's the perfect time to show your pride with one of the state's specialty license plates that proudly say "national champions."
At least, they used to.
The state's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has started shipping University of Florida tags with a brand new design.
Just in time to celebrate a pair of national champion teams, the plate is losing the words "national champions." Instead, under an enlarged team logo, black writing on the new plate reads "The Gator Nation."
