When Austin Maddox ran into the wall of McKethan Stadium chasing a foul pop, we thought nothing of it. As it turns out, it was a significant play as Florida’s post-season hopes took another hit.
Maddox showed up today in a walking boot and on crutches for his sprained left foot. It’s doubtful we will see him again this weekend.
It’s a bigger issue on the mound that at the plate. His replacement Vickash Ramjit is hitting .415 although he only has 53 at-bats. He doesn’t have Maddox’s power but is a comparable fielder.
Where Florida will miss Maddox the most is as its closer. He has five saves and two wins in 19 appearances and an ERA of 0.74.
And with Brian Johnson still day–to-day, the Gators are getting injuries at the wrong time.
