Gators pass on Jackson Davis

Florida canceled its in-home visit with 2014 frontcourt prospect Jackson Davis on Wednesday.

According to Davis’ father, former Kentucky forward Jonathan Davis, it was a friendly parting. Davis said his son talked on a conference call a few hours with Florida coach Billy Donovan and Florida assistant coach John Pelphrey.

“We did keep the meeting,” Jonathan Davis said. “But after talking on the phone we realized that Jackson wants to go somewhere where he can make an immediate impact, play 25-30 minutes, and we didn’t see that happening at Florida.”

Davis also indicated that the Florida coaching staff appears confident that it will land Michigan transfer forward Jon Horford.

“It worked out well for (Florida) because they only have one scholarship left and are looking to use it on a big-time transfer,” Davis said.

A 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward from Lexington, Ky., Davis is considered the 57th best power forward prospect in the nation and the fifth-best prospect in the state of Kentucky according to 247sports.com’s college basketball database. He could still wind up playing in the Southeastern Conference, but not at UF. Alabama offered Davis a scholarship after a visit on April 18. The Tide are one of Davis’ three finalists, along with Butler and Rice.

Horford has yet to decide on his transfer destination, but Florida appears to be the frontrunners. The 6-foot-9, 250-pound graudate transfer also is mulling offers from Notre Dame and UCF.
