Gators Beat Troy Torjan 56-6

It was sloppy in the first quarter, but the final box score shows the No. 1 Florida Gators over the Troy Trojans by a score of 56-6. We could have seen more scoring if it wasn't raining early on, and if the starters played more than 3 quarters. The Gators were only winning 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but lit up the scoreboard by adding 28 points in the 2nd quarter. Not sure what turned them on, but it was like flipping a light switch.

Tim Tebow finished the day 15-24 for 237 yards plus 4 passing touchdowns and he carried the ball 13 times for 71 yards plus a touchdown. Tebow was the leading rusher on the team in terms of carries, but both Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey were able to do more with less. On only 7 carries, Demps was able to muster up 87 yards plus a touchdown and on 12 carries Rainey put up 85 yards plus a touchdown. For several years the Gators rushing attack was considered a weakspot of the team, now I think it's a strength. If Demps and Rainey keep this up we could see two 1,000 yard rushers on the team.

Once again Riley Cooper led the team in receptions with 5 for 82 yards and a touchdown. The Gators spread the ball around, completing passes to Hines, Holliday, James, Hernandez, Thompson, Williams, Nelson and Gillislee. It was nice to see Deonte Thompson grab two receptions for 39 yards, both of which happened to be for touchdowns.

The Gator defense was outstanding yesterday... giving up only 139 yards of offense to Troy. I'm sure it helped having Cunningham and Jenkins, who were suspended for the opener, back on the field. Cunningham forced a fumble early, and Jenkins had the interception midway through the second quarter."Defense is the name of the game today, and that defense was dominating," Meyer said.

Redshirt sophomore John BRantley came in at quarterback near the end of the third quarter. He finished the day 10-12 for 135 yards and a touchdown. His stat line looks a little better than his play. At points Brantley didn't look as comfortable back there as I would have liked. But that's something he'll pick up on as he gets more playing time.

Up next, the Tennessee Volunteers. Can't wait for this one.
