PALO ALTO, Calif. — Top-ranked Stanford defeated Florida 2-2 (4-3 on penalty kicks) Friday night in the NCAA soccer tournament quarterfinals.
“I thought it was an unbelievable match,” Florida coach Becky Burleigh said. “It was two great teams just battling it out.
“I was so proud of our team to go down twice to come back twice. The effort we laid on the line – I don’t think this team has any regrets.”
Stanford, the No. 1 regional seed, advances to the College Cup next weekend at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. The Cardinal (21-1-2) will play second-ranked Florida State (22-1-1) in the semifinal round Friday. The Seminoles eliminated South Carolina 5-0 earlier Friday in Tallahassee.
