Other sports analysts think the Gators have the 12th-best team in terms of recruited talent over the past few years. Perhaps with better coaching the Gators will live up to that talent and finish near the top 10 in the polls this year! Here are the most talented teams with the average talent rating shown across all scholarship athletes. Not shown is the raw talent score, which accounts for number of 5-star athletes, transfers, and proprietary information not important to the discussion. What the ranking and average talent tells is that despite years of floundering it still has one of the most talented teams in America. The algorithm is biased for 5-star talent and blue-chip talent. The Gators recruited blue chips rather well under Mullen’s four classes, but they did not acquire many 5-star athletes out of high school and the high talent rating is largely the result of landing a few 5-star transfers. All it takes is a good coach to tap into that talent, irrespective of the way the talent was acquired.

Although Billy sure seems driven (AND more and more on TRACK) to improve our position on such a list, here's hoping even THIS current relative ranking is fairly accurate: One gets the overall impression that he and his upgraded and dramatically expanded staff are up to the task and bent on pedal-to-the-metal CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.
One of the most puzzling things about the now fast-dwindling-in-the-rearview "Mullen Era" (in addition to his slavish attachment to an increasingly befuddled and OVERMATCHED Grantham) was the degree to which he and his staff failed to adapt to glaring difficulties and omissions over the last few seasons.
Like y"all, I could go on at LENGTH about how well I THOUGHT of his leadership and skills fitting to Coach and lead the Florida Gators return to ultimate glory--but it was not to be.
As for young Mr. Napier and HIS much-expanded and talented staff (and especially their apparent attention-to-DETAIL), this should of course serve us well immediately and for years to come--but after the last more-than-a-decade of disappointment and let down under a wide range of "much-heralded" incoming Coaches, we can be forgiven for taking a careful, "show us what you got" attitude with this latest regime as it comes together, buckles down and tries to SURPASS what are HARDLY "lowered expectations" in Gainesville, after all.

The talent ratings cover all scholarship athletes on the roster, regardless of the manner in which the athlete made it to the roster—recruited out of high school or transferred in. The walkons without ratings are ignored.

All well and good, but let's face it: The dominant attitude out there is "Lets see how the first month of the season turns out before WE start worrying about our TRUE relative ranking/rating in relation to everyone else..."
It'll be the actual practical onfield results, especially in terms of wins and losses of course that will affect everything else.
I understand and appreciate y'all's "scientific approach" in this regard, but for most fans it all comes down to final scores and our resulting record. It may neither be truly revealing nor particularly accurate or predictive of progress or FUTURE success--but that won't stop the rise or fall of Gator Nation's emotional pulse, OR it's resulting general support.
The energy and buoyant positivity in the Swamp last night was something to behold; it can only help this team, and further attract new talent who come for recruiting visits as well. Nothing helps to further sustain such support like winning, obviously.
I hope our rising ratings among the experts continue and that they indeed are reflected in the outcome of our coming games. But if last night's game, especially its ending shows anything, a last second "bolt from the blue" trumps all the stats one can muster.
