The Gators are still in the hunt for S Avantae Williams (Deland, FL). Some sites have him going to Miami, and some have him going to Florida. The only other player that is projected to Florida is transfer WR Justin Shorter of Penn State by way of Monmouth Junction, NJ.

The Gators lose the battle for 4-star S Avantae Williams and replace him with 4-star SDE Princely Umanmielen. Williams is the only player that the Gators really missed out on, but in defense of the Gator recruiting staff, the Gators need defensive linemen more than they need safeties. 4-star WR (and brother to CJ Henderson) Xzavier Henderson appears to have overcome his academic qualification issues and signed with Florida as expected.

The only remaining player is 2019 4-star recruit, Wardrick Wilson, who is still struggling with visa issues in the Bahamas.

The Gators at #8 in the major recruiting services, #6 in the SEC, #1 in the state.
  1. Georgia 313.34
  2. Alabama 310.44
  3. Clemson 309.73
  4. LSU 300.54
  5. Ohio State 295.08
  6. aTm 289.49
  7. Auburn 274.60
  8. Florida 274.36
  9. Texas 270.93
  10. Tennessee 261.50
  11. Oklahoma
  12. Oregon
  13. scUM
  14. Michigan
  15. Penn State
  16. Washington
  17. Notre Dame
  18. South Carolina
  19. North Carolina
  20. Nebraska
  21. Stanford
  22. FSU
  23. Kentucky
  24. Arizona State
  25. Wisconsin
The Gators finished with a recruiting ranking of 274.36, which was less than a point behind behind Auburn. The Gators would have needed to sign Sedrick Van Pran, Avantae Williams, and Demarkcus Bowman (using actual uncommitted targets) in order to be ranked behind Ohio State (295.08). The Gators would have needed Zachary Evans in order to be ranked behind Clemson (309.73).

Hypothetically, the Gators have an adjusted ranking of #5 (approximately 296.19) using transfers Brenton Cox, Lorenzo Lingard, and Justin Shorter. Normally it is a knock against a coach when they rely on the transfer portal, but Dan Mullen had 10 years of experience at Mississippi using transfers, and this was before the advent of the transfer portal. Mullen is unique in his ability to bring in a mix of 3-star and 4-star/ 5-star athletes via transfer. None of the other top-10 programs other than Alabama and Ohio State are getting blue chip athletes through the transfer portal.

Overall this was a good recruiting class with only two defections and one miss. Note: a defection is defined as a verbal commitment recruit who de-commits and signs elsewhere, and a miss is defined as a recruit who takes multiple official visits and unofficial visits only to sign elsewhere. I further refine that definition to include recruits who attended Gator Junior Day, Friday Night Lights, and at least one game for official visits.
