Five members of the Florida volleyball team will travel to Colorado Springs this weekend for an open tryout that will serve as an audition for various USA Volleyball programs in 2008.
Junior Kelsey Bowers, sophomore Elyse Cusack and freshmen Lauren Bledsoe, Kristy Jaeckel and Callie Rivers are set to participate in the tryout, which will run from Feb. 22-24 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
With five players in attendance, the Gators will be the most-represented of four Southeastern Conference teams at the event, while their total also ties for third-most among the 50 colleges and universities that will send players to the tryout.
The tryout, which will tentatively feature 114 athletes, will be used to identify possible candidates for the U.S. National and Olympic Teams, as well as the A2 program, which is planning to train in Atlanta beginning on May 19 and play in the U.S. Open Championships at the Atlanta Convention Center from May 24-27.
