Emory Jones deserves some respect. He was a 2,000-yard passer in his only year as a starter and he maintained a 149.2 passer rating. His passer rating in year 1 as a starter is comparable with other Mullen quarterbacks Alex Smith and Dak Prescott and #10 of 23 among Mullen's quarterbacks and #12 among all Gator quarterbacks with more than 100 attempts in a season.
Here is how he ranks against the all-time Gator QBs. EJ5 quietly turned his season around after starting with one of the lowest passer ratings in history (right at 100.0) and brought it up nearly 50 points.
What really hurts Emory is interceptions. His 5.14% interception-per-attempt ratio places him at #52 of 60 Gator QBs with more than 100 attempts.

Yes—he hung in there, was quietly loyal (especially with the way he supported and seemingly appreciated his “co-QB” AR-15, no matter HOW confused his handling by Coach Mullen seemed at times.
Those interceptions, the general repeated flaws and unimproved weaknesses in his game just didn’t appear to change enough for the better over time—but he was far from “alone” in THAT on this team last coupla seasons, and you gotta wonder if that was as much a COACHING weakness as a player/practice one, in the final analysis (unfortunately, we might learn as much as some of these young men move on to other programs!). Anyway, though I felt it was past time for AR’s ascendancy anyway, I’m sorry to see Emory leave (I’d have preferred to see him stay, as the back up for now—you never KNOW what’s gonna happen, and it happens that there was plenty of EVIDENCE for that while he was HERE!)...regardless, though, I wish him well in his career.
Florida QB Jones pivots, entering transfer portal
Despite starting 12 games for the Florida Gators last season, redshirt senior QB Emory Jones has decided to enter the transfer portal, he announced Saturday.
Hopefully, it's official this time. Napier convinced him to stay a little longer prolonging this but it looks like it's done for sure. He's working on his degree to be eligible in 2022.

This is the nature of college football. Entering the transfer portal does not mean the player has to transfer; however, Napier did send out an official message supporting Emory’s decision to transfer in a time period where Napier must cut 5 or so players to reach that 85 scholarship limit by end of spring camp. Emory probably will have his scholarship pulled effective this academic year, so he can stay on campus until Summer B to finish his degree at the latest. Apparently there are reports that he tried to graduate in Winter 2022 (December) but he was missing a couple classes and had to delay graduation to Spring 2022 (May). Theoretically he can stay in the portal until August without a 2023 scholarship.
