Some observations from Florida’s 66-49 win over Fresno State:
– For as well as Casey Prather has developed as a scorer during his senior season at Florida, the 6-foot-6 forward said he feels like he can do more to contribute defensively. Remember, Prather built his reputation as a Corey Brewer-type in high school because of athleticism on defense. But Florida coach Billy Donovan benched Prather for a stretch in the first half due to some defensive lapses.
– Florida coach Billy Donovan has used the term “stagnant” to describe UF’s offense in each of its last two games. It’s for good reason. Florida’s combined assist-to-turnover ratio in wins over Memphis and Fresno State was 25 to 28. Florida needs to work on its ball movement and player movement on offense with Southeastern Conference play approaching.
- Granted, the rims at the BB&T Center were tight, but Florida’s three primary big guys (Will Yeguete, Patric Young and Dorian Finney-Smith) went a combined 8 of 22 from the floor, with several shots missed from close rim. Florida needs the three players to finish better around the rim, especially in games where the Gators have a physical mismatch.
