Some observations following UF’s 78-65 win over Arkansas at Exactech Arena:
— Florida center Kevarrius Hayes played hard inside against the Razorbacks with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. But foul trouble continues to plague the 6-foot-9, 218 pound big man, as Hayes finished with four fouls for the fifth straight game. Teams will continue to go after Hayes, who needs to remain disciplined enough to avoid contact while defending.
— For as well as Florida played offensively in the first half in jumping to a 41-28 lead, the Gators were also a little too loose with the ball with nine first-half turnovers. KeVaughn Allen tried a long alley-oop to Devin Robinson that resulted in a turnover. Point guards Kasey Hill and Chris Chiozza combined for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 5 to 6.
— There was some good, some bad in freshman center Gorjok Gak’s eight minutes on the floor against Arkansas. The 6-foot-11 Gak had two rebounds, but could have had a few more had he not allowed some balls to get deflected out of his hands. Gak scored one basket, but missed both of his free throw attempts. He’ll be an important piece going forward to spell Hayes with John Egbunu out for the season with a torn ACL.
