Andre Debose's Hamstring Injury

Mr2Bits

Andre Debose was the Florida Gators top recruit. He was a five-star athlete coming out of high school and the NO. 2 ranked player his the WR position. In the spring, Debose injured his hamstring at a track meet. It's been causing him problems ever since. The decision will be made (likely today) if Debose will undergo season ending surgery.

Gator coach Urban Meyer is expecting to make an annoucement today regarding Debose's status. If he elects for the surgery he will have to redshirt and will miss the entire year. That's probably not something an 18 year old kid wants to hear... especially when the team is ranked No. 1 and you have the opportunity to step on the field with Tim Tebow. If Debose redshirts, he'll miss a lot of national exposure.

"It's an unusual injury," Meyer said. "[Strength] coach [Mickey Marotti] told me they found [a specialist] somewhere who has more information. Once again, I'm not in the medical profession, but what doctors do is, if they have experience with it, there's no issue. If they don't have experience with it, they call around and talk to colleagues. He has one of those unusual ones, and our training staff has not dealt with this before."

In my opinion, Debose needs to have the surgery and sit the season out. Hamstring injuries can linger for an entire career. It's not something you want to have. Just deal with it now while you're young and recover fully for a chance to win a starting job on the 2010 team.
