2022 Transfer Portal

As the season winds down, expect to see a few more transfers announced. The transfer portal opens up December 5th.

  • LB Diwun Black has been dismissed from the team despite earning glowing accolades during his time in Gainesville. Diwun was originally a 2018 recruit out of Osceola, Kissimmee, FL in Dan Mullen's first class. He did not qualify academically, so he wen to JUCO and returned as a 2021 recruit. He has one more year of eligibility remaining.
  • OL Joshua Braun will transfer as a 2019 recruit and redshirt junior with two more years remaining. He is also an academic senior who recently changed majors from mechanical engineering to cultural studies.
  • TE Griffin McDowell of Lee County, Leesburg, GA started as OL, moved to DL, and finally to TE. Played in 40 games. He was part of the class of 2018.
  • TE Nick Eklsnis of Episcopal, Jacksonville, FL willl transfer as a redshirt freshman after rarely seeing the field. He was part of the class of 2021.
  • WR Trent Whittemore will transfer as a graduate student. He was a 2019 recruit out of F.W. Bucholz, Gainesville, FL.
  • S Kamar Wilcoxson of IMG Academy, Bradenton, FL will transfer as a redshirt sophomore. He was originally recruited to the class of 2021, but he reclassified to 2020 and become Dan Mullen's first and only recruit out of IMG Academy.
  • OLB Brenton Cox has been dismissed from the team for undisclosed disciplinary issues. He was part of Georgia's 2018 class, but was dismissed for undisclosed reasons in 2019. He sat a year factored in heavily in the 2020 season.

Billy generally doesn't care to discuss the dismissals, doesn't "air our dirty laundry publicly", but one can look at the nature of the dismissals in particular, the fact that it actually seems to IGNORE how strong a contribution the player may have been making of late, to realize that ALL of the above is likely part of the necessary and in fact INEVITABLE "turnover".
For various reasons (in the cases of some of these young men, their leaving is directly AND generally related to our Coach's determined campaign to remake the CULTURE AND ATTITUDE of this team and program) all thus HAD to happen.
