Once the college football season ends in early January, focus begins to shift towards recruiting. The Gators already have a nice crop of commits, but there are still several big recruits who haven't made up their mind. They're waiting for signing day.
National Signing Day is the first day a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for college football. This year, National Signing Day is held on Wednesday Feb. 4.
The Gators currently have 16 commits. Scout has them ranked No. 1, just behind PSU and Texas A&M. Rivals has the Gators ranked slightly higher at No. 9. By the time Signing Day is over, I'm sure the Gators will move up to near No. 5 or better. All it takes is the signing of two 5-star guys.
Current Gator commits include:
Andre Debose - WR - *****
Xavier Nixon - OT - *****
Jon Bostic - LB - ****
Marsalis Teaque - CB - ****
Edwin Herbert - DT - ****
Jonotthan Harrison - OG - ****
Current Gator prospects include:
Rueben Randle - WR - *****
Jelani Jenkins - LB - *****
Trent Richardson - RB - *****
Marlon Brown - WR - *****
I don't see the Gators picking up a 5-star RB this year. These guys want 20+ touches a game, and a RB in Meyer's system just won't get that. With Percy's departure, the Gators could land a 5-star WR in the coming weeks.
