Outrageous!

Y’all see that USA Today article featuring DJ Lagway’s supposed explanation for his trouble at UF?
He was “lonely, depressed and isolated” here. Oh boo-HOO!
First, that’s not what we saw, not until the 2025 season when he was throwing as many interceptions as TDs, anyway.
Then there’s the fact that we gave ya a few million dollars. I mean, top-paid NIL athletes have fewer excuses than EVER to complain, not to face and deal with, take RESPONSIBILITY for any emotional issues on a college football team—ESPECIALLY for a QB-1.
Oh, and by the way:
THIS IS THE SEC, fer crying’ out loud!
And right there I begin to finally see the exact same picture of and explanation for the parallel failures of Coach and Player:
Neither Napier nor Lagway simply were up for the highest level of competition…and the final proof (no matter WHAT happens next for each) is in the fact of their similar “solutions”:
JUMP, TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN to a “lower stress”, in reality LOWER GRADE conference and program.
And I hope each of them have happier lives; they do have head starts, in both cases (though at a 20-something MILLION DOLLAR buy out, Billy’s “pay-to-fail” career-move strikes me as the GREATER “outrage”…but picking up a few mill to fail, then continuing to gather a decent amount more while the world bends over to help you “get it right” ain’t so bad either, DJ. Even if you DON’T make it to the pros, you’ve got a nice foundation AND a college degree as you begin a post-football career.
Count your blessings—and PLEASE don’t whine to the world about how “lonely and isolated I was at University of Florida”!

I get it, he is just a college "kid", but at the same time he is paid like a professional. Part of the blame goes to his coach for not setting him up for success.

Yes. One more retrospective strike against Napier & Co…
And one MORE against that family and “entourage” that gave him this latest bit of dubious advice—in this case, to out of the blue now decide to publicly whine about multiple aspects of his time at UF (which mostly has to do with folks who aren’t here anymore ANYHOW).
I can see the argument that he was “mishandled”, but though that reflects poorly on the former staff here, it also once more suggests similar questions with regard to those around him: Who gave him the idea that this was a good time to publicly blame ANYONE?…to bitch and whine about things that said a whole lot more about choices HE made—or at the very least passively accepted from those outside of himself.
I begin to get a better idea of how that “honest and frank discussion” Sumrall referred to as framing their private meeting when he got here, how that actually played out—the one that eventually somehow led to him choosing the portal.
He and Napier were wrong about each other…and more and more it seems WE were wrong about BOTH OF THEM.

Watch the videos that Florida is releasing on spring training and the gauntlet. Things are different under this staff. Insiders have verified that practice is intense. Without that second transfer portal window that existed until last year, I expect a few athletes to lose starting roles from last year due to lack of intensity and commitment. My prediction is that Lagway would not have survived this camp. Throughout all of 2025 he switched from in-person classes to online classes and "practiced" from his dorm room with video games or from the Heaver Football Facility in their football simulator. Without live balls and live players, he regressed mightily. Also by being entirely remote, he forced himself into isolation, lost connection with teammates, and lacked connection with students who were chanting his name a year earlier or fan-boying him in class his freshman year.

And in addition to all the implied revelations about what was “REALLY happening with DJ” last season, now comes Napier’s pseudo-admission of responsibility, where in truth he passes the buck entirely.
I can to a certain extent pity Lagway and in a kind of en emotional fashion “wish him well”, but at THIS point Napier deserves only one big “FUCK YOU, Billy!!!” from Gator Nation.
A small minded, small time guy who conned a big wad of cash and now more appropriately carries on at an over-funded small time school.
Best to somehow drop all thought of him entirely—consign him to the trash heap of history, where he belongs.
