Getting that “Number One Seed” in the Dance is a bigger factor than I realized:
Turns out #1’s hardly EVER falter early (two losses in the entire history of March Madness first round), but Cinderella-upset stories DO come out of #2 vs #15 matchups with some regularity.
This ISN’T just some statistical anomaly…It has to do with the kinds of small-school/“off beat outliers” that tend to make it IN as relatively low-rated nationally, but with talent, coaching and a particular way of maximizing BOTH.
So…That U-Conn loss was huge, but UF needs to retain control of their own destiny by pretty well winning out.
