...but I already have some pretty solid feelings about our outlook going on the road (for REAL—as opposed to that game against USF down in Tampa coupla weeks back) this Saturday against UK.
Even considering the mixture of the streak finally lost at home and the several “close calls” where they had every chance to beat us (and probably SHOULD have actually managed it at least once or twice there), it begins to look as if THOSE opportunities are more than likely behind them AND us by now:
Just going by what we’ve seen of the growth and development of Mullen’s charges so far THIS season, the potential is our OWN to control and ultimately dominate the line of scrimmage going BOTH directions against UK—and once again pull away in the second half.
It’d still be best if we were to do a better job of getting it going EARLY this time, though—ELIMINATE the need for any “late-charge” (as some of those aforementioned “late close victories” required) eliminating sloppy play (and MISSED TACKLES) that have marred much of our play at times, ESPECIALLY in the first halves of the first few games.
In other words, it is all in our own hands: Our fate, the outcome of this game, those beyond, and essentially the rest of this season is within our own control!
It is simply up to US to stop the unforced errors, tackle cleanly and generally DO YOUR JOB: Prepare properly for success—So that come Saturday, you PLAY LIKE YOU PRACTICE!
We get started in that vein early in a game, NO ONE beats us. Least of all a team like UK who, though well-coached and generally improving, ISN’T as talented OR deep as us even NOW. We play up to our talent and execute our Coach’s game plan and even at THEIR place and with a raucous crowd behind them we win going away. But be forewarned:
If we screw around, revert to bad habits and lose composure early, we CAN lose control and dig a hole we may or may NOT be able to dig ourselves out of.
I don’t even wanna GO there—so far as I’m concerned, THIS one REQUIRES us to at the very least play clean and establish control FROM THE START.
Because I see it that way, I guess I EXPECT us to KNOW EARLY in this one which way it is headed. I DON’T expect the kind of disappointing let-down we saw against LSU last year— but we’ll know it if we see it, and if we DO, well, it’ll obviously mean a huge “missed opportunity” that will drain what has otherwise til now been a fast-building excitement of all its fun and promise.
We’re NOT the team that you can just calmly, confidently just relax and ENJOY THE RIDE heading INTO such a game: We haven’t proven ourselves yet; we just aren’t THERE yet.
It’s one we “SHOULD” win though—and as such, at this point it’s one that amounts to “an early test”, a chance to see, to PROVE where we are, WHO we are right here and NOW.

Even though it's the first true road game with a full crowd since 2019 (USF doesn't count since it was probably most Gator fans), I'm not that worried (ok maybe a little). I'm worried when the Gators go to Baton Rouge and Mizzo (not because of the Tigers but mostly for the weather, It's not going to be Florida weather in Missouri on November 20th). Kentucky struggled against their last three opponents. Also, I wonder if Emory Jones should be worried. The last two times the starting QB didn't finish the game and the backup came back to win the game. Is Richardson healthy?

AR supposedly (a la Mullen) “at 100%, fully healed now...”
Right this moment I’m watching Emory being interviewed about this game as a guest on “SEC Now”; He is relaxed and seems confident, well-composed. Interestingly, one host bringing up past “friction” between these teams (“you two squads don’t like each other, have mixed it up in the past...”) but Jones staying low-key—refuses to take the bait. He sticks to talking about he and his team, having to “just take care of business, clean up our mistakes and previous sloppy play—especially on ME to keep learning, growing, getting better...” Saying all the right stuff!
I think we’ll know pretty early how things are and where this one’s going. I don’t think we’ll NEED AR15 to pull this one out, but I DO think he will again “ADD something” dynamic should he play—and it will be interesting to see when and how Coach uses him, if so.
Another long Saturday before we get to see what happens here, but I’m hoping we WON’T have to sweat things out “deep into the night”! Like you, I’m not TOO worried about how well we match up heading INTO this game: The MAIN thing is to assert our talent and experience advantage “early and often”, get and KEEP control of this one in the first half—more or less take the crowd out of it and just take it home from there.
That’s the kind of team we AIM to be, what our Coach is in the process of trying to build and fully install here. This “first true road game” versus a talented and well-motivated (but still learning) rival is probably a good measuring stick for OUR progress. It is time for us to begin ASSERTING ourselves in such games—ANSWERING questions instead of raising new ones.

Always worry about Kentucky. Beating Florida is their idea of a Super Bowl, rest of the season be damned. They have a dangerous passer, and a very disciplined team.

Of course you are right, E—:
For UK it really goes BEYOND the everyday “target on our backs”...Yeah, “WE’RE their SuperBowl” is probably not an exaggeration with them.
By the way, @Escambia94,
take a look at Levis’ relative ratings between when he is pressured, and when he’s NOT this season. Have I got this wrong??? ‘Cause if not, then he goes from being a CRAP QB (low-40s rating) when under pressure to a really GOOD one (well above 100) when he’s NOT!
Here’s hoping that GRANTHAM hasn’t missed this, if I’m right!
