The Blue Helmet or the White Helmet?

I still prefer the white helmet, but the blue helmet was a beautiful sight to see!

I’m not a huge fan of EITHER...I love our “modern iconic” GATOR script-logo-emblazoned cover...but of the two, though “Royal Blue” IS my favorite color, as a part of our football uniform I suppose the White is the superior, more “class” look.
But on balance, my fave look is the ALL-Blue uniform with the modern “Script”-helmet: That’s MY first choice, hands down.

I would like to see an all-blue look. I would also say an all-white look but that was done before and it didn't go well. I like both helmets. Yes, I know the Orange helmet has been around for over 50 years now.

I am not sure if anyone is advocating to replace the iconic orange helmets with any other color. I assumed the question was rather simple: "In terms of recent throwback uniforms, do you prefer the white helmets from 2019 or the blue helmets from 2020?". To that I say that I liked the white helmet from 2019, which was better than the white throwback helmets we saw in 2006.

Naw...”We’s jus’ talkin’!!!”
I assume that for US it’s JUST “talk”—something to jaw about nervously in the days leading up to ANOTHER “Big Game” in a SEASON that is weighing upon us heavier and HEAVIER, let’s face it—in a YEAR that continues to intensify in EVERY WAY, within the “College Football” context AND without!
Geez, without THIS bare “distraction” I’d be going absolutely NUTS!

On other Gator forums I am on, there are people who seriously want to revamp the uniforms. I am okay with designating one game per year for "throw forward" uniforms and Homecoming for throwback uniforms. I am not a fan over overhauling the uniforms, and Scott Stricklin is not a fan either. Stricklin and the UFAA agreed to honor Gator history, so we are going to see more throwback uniforms. Nobody knows that is coming next year, but I predict it will be the numbers-only helmets from the late 1960s or the interlocking U-F helmets from the late 1960s through part of the 1970s.

I remember the first “switch” (well, “first” for ME), to the “interlocking UF” helmets in the 60s, when my “UF Football-jones” really got going (as I actually played and was first fully immersed in the nuances of The Game), and then the next much-publicized change to all-Orange uniforms when Bear Bryant-protege Charlie Pell came over (from the then-upstart success of Clemsen, where he was returning to the SEC from his success over there—Much was made of the “all-Orange”-connection back THEN, too...you see? Nothing/ EVERYTHING is “new” again! But it is no wonder folks have mainly buried that memory, and are only NOW able to “rediscover” the all-Orange look: When Pell replaced Doug Dickey (to much fanfare), we immediately went “0-10-and-1”, tying only Georgia Southern (a Div II school, as such programs used to be designated), as I recall.
Although our teams (and resulting records) improved in subsequent seasons, Charlie “did it the old-fashioned way” learned under “Bear” in the SEC—“Cheating at recruiting” is how we’d put it now—and how the NCAA eventually saw it (and came down on us—SEVERELY) THEN...
Things deteriorated steadily and further from there, a tragic tale that I won’t dwell on here—except to note that we paid (and paid. AND PAID FOR IT in years and FOR YEARS TO COME...)...followed by the EVEN MORE CORRUPT (with fewer excuses and MORE arrogance) Barry Switzer-trained Galen Hall coming over from Oklahoma:
By the time HE was “nabbed and flagged” and our program along with him, we were flirting with resentful, vindictive NCAA AND SEC oversight committees’ applying a much-talked-about but before then never APPLIED “Death Penalty”; “fortunately” for us, this kind of behavior was widely recognized and at least whispered about all ACROSS College Football—and there were certainly more egregious (and highly publicized) examples...Someone was gonna get it—and shortly thereafter, fair or not, SMU DID. That whole series of episodes and headlines had its day and has to a great extent “faded into the past”—much to the pleasure of all but those at the programs that WERE hardest hit by the albeit arbitrary and admittedly uneven application of “extreme sanction” (lucky for US! I mean, NOT that we didn’t pay—and pay and PAY, for YEARS and in various ways after that, even after Spurrier came riding in to the rescue—gathering up the shards and pieces, bringing with him a plan and program to return our pride and build a new sense of identity in Gainesville. I was there for all of that, the Fall AND The Rise, and we can never thank him enough.
So, in this case, and in the above context, uniform “color” and “style” can and DO make a real difference—MORE than “just surface symbolism”, when viewed sometimes in “the larger historical context”!
I COULD have (literally) gone to “any school I WANTED to” for my undergraduate college degree, but my family background, our family’s physical/geographic locations growing up, the emotional nature of both my own and UF’s ongoing “backstory”, AND my meanwhile co-commitent growing interest in/love of college football I must admit DID. along with my love of Florida (the State AND the University) and my having moved away and MISSING IT at the very time I was CONSIDERING colleges, PLUS my research into the pros and cons of the various scholastic ratings of the programs I was considering) all played their parts in influencing me—but, foolish or not, my love of major college football (my father and I had gone to games at stadiums all over the country whenever we could, growing up—he even grabbed Season’s Tickets for us at various universities we lived close to and he taught at over the years) definitely played a role in my ultimate choice: “Gator for Life”!
Sorry for the (unasked for, no doubt boring and superfluous) “autobiography” here—but the fact is I DID and DO have this “lifelong connection” with UF, as MANY of us do, each in our own way I’m sure—and in truth am proud OF it!
(Now that it is “out here”, I am tempted to delete it; pretty “self-indulgent” on my part, after all...”Too much time on my hands??!”...
But then again, I’d WELCOME hearing Y’ALL’s such tales!
...So maybe I’ll leave it up...)
One other note—this one kinda weird:
That first year upon PELL’S arrival, when we went winless...as the season progressed and we built up that “head-of-steam towards ultimate futility and mediocrity”, we more and more “just had FUN at games”! Good deal of time on the student-side at Florida Field was spent picking up tank-topped, braless cuties down near the track and passing them over our heads all the way to the TOP OF THE Student Section, or carrying out pre-arranged plans to hoist pony-kegs of beer up that one back wall at the (then-open) end of the stadium—then free beer for ALL until it ran out!!! (Though that was eventually stopped—considered “too dangerous” for MANY reasons, even in those “pre-PC”- days!)
And so on: In subsequent years (shortly thereafter: I believe we were in the “Tangerine Bowl”, soon to be renamed “The Florida Citrus Bowl”, in Orlando) the following year or the one after—that’s how fast we improved after that).
But I ALSO soon after in that “following year” found myself actually commiserating with friends AT games how we’d actually “HAD MORE FUN when we knew there was no reason to WORRY about these games: “That we were too CRAPPY to worry...!”
...”Now we’re back to sweating the final score!” LOL
Of course, THAT’S a sacrifice we’d all GLADLY MAKE! And KEEP making to this very day. No?
