Let’s Win the Bye!

Sorry. I know it’s an oldie—but still a “goodie” that I always wanted to try myself...and ya know, there’s a kind of actual SENSE to it:
We CAN “win the Bye”:
Just gotta get healthy, our Strength and Conditioning Coach earning his pay and getting us fit and ready...You all SAW all our guys writhing on the turf from phantom “hits” the last few minutes this last game???
So it ISN’T just our cover/rushers coming back from THEIR dreaded “high ankle sprains”: there are some fresh injuries that need tending...
WE MUST GET HEALTHY IF WE ARE TO MAKE OUR STRETCH RUN.
This is IT, folks. (And yes, it turns out that, in that light at least TT’s over-the-weekend plea for it being “time to REembrace Meyer NOW!” ...admittedly, my skin crawled a bit at the very thought: That’s what the idea of cozying up to a lizard will DO to ya, right? But it turns out to be a timely move for him AND us: HIS as a way to begin to position himself for an “elderly statesman” job; US in order to TRY at least one more time to GET THE DAMN NCAA OFF OUR BACKS, maybe once and for ALL?!! At least call off the officiating DOGS who continue to call games like that obvious fiasco this past Saturday...the less historically informed “experts” on the postgame shows appeared ignorant and bewildered by the way that one was called: Like there WAS no “history”!)
...Which left them missing the context COMPLETELY:
We still have everything set up for us: Look good, win out, and who knows?
Anything ELSE will indicate, if not eminent failure, then at the very least a complete rebuild-job and LOOOONNNNG ROAD back to where we thought we were already on our way to BEING.
Don’t know bout y’all, but I don’t relish retracing that road, that far...I’d almost rather bring Urban BACK (!). Yes, I am that fearful, and would be that disappointed, to have to face that reality.
“Say it ain’t so, Joe!”

This would be as good a time, and PLACE, as anywhere to note a bit of a REthink on my part:
After watching the game replay a SECOND time (my first review was an accelerated one the evening after the game—and in retrospect I believe maybe I was still reacting emotionally and in frustration at the miscues, both onfield by our players AND the officials , and seemingly on the sidelines as well), I wish to temper my earlier remarks.
First, I had already begun to back away from much of my specific criticism of Mullens: For one thing, though I still have questions regarding his use (more his NON-use) of the Challenge Rules, “All’s well that ends well”, and I began to suspect that Mullens at LEAST had specific and concrete reasons for the way he eschewed using Challenges in those situations—and though no one asked him about it in his presser (I would STILL like to hear his reasoning re those decisions), he WAS asked and DID address a number of OTHER areas of concern that I had questions about during and immediately post-game—and have to concede that his overall attitude towards and decisions as a result, amounting to “sticking with a well-conceived game plan” that he and his staff had seen no reason to change and no evidence would not eventually pay off, and reassuring his team that this was the case and they’d all best stick together and “stay with the plan” would not only serve them well in THIS game, but overall as time went on and the season played out that they could well have faith in the Coaches AND “The Plan”, and that this ITSELF was an important lesson for all, in the long run...And we WON, which further deepens the bonds of trust between staff and players AND puts all the rest in a different light than I could see from a frustrated FAN’S P.O.V. from IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME.
I remain a bit lost on exactly what the reasoning really was on those particular Challenges, for eg, but now am more than willing to suspend criticism and assume there WAS a reason, let the question go for now but HOPE that it is answered positively by circumstance (or at least not somehow come back to haunt us).
All in all, we SHOULD be re-attaining our best health and fitness as a team this year just as we come off a bye, and find ourselves readier than we could have hoped for our meeting with a Georgia squad that both the fans and (more importantly) PLAYERS KNOW is beatable after all—and even better, I believe, might very well be just beginning to have real doubts about ITSELF. ONLY this particular series of events and occurrences leading up to this one could have produced this, especially coming into the season and its early going. Perhaps I’m being overly optimistic once again, but as long as the weather stays “southern” this time, I believe we have a real chance to nip them at the end in this one: That is a really satisfying feature of this Gator Team’s character, the way we “come ON”, getting stronger in the 2nd Half and then STEAMROLL in the 4th. E-, correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t the stats bear me out on this impression? We DO just get stronger and stronger, BOTH sides of the ball: So that in the 4th we do what needs doing—getting the ball and SCORING REPEATEDLY???

Good News, Georgia isn't as strong as they were so the Gators have a good chance.
Yes. In the course of the last few weeks the whole look and VIBE of this season in the SEC East has been altered: I too now believe we can BEAT this year’s UGA iteration: We are getting healthy and BETTER right at the right time!
And I will say something that has gone from “unsayable” to “common knowledge” in the space of a few WEEKS: When Filipe Franks went down, it turned out we were on track to end upgrading at QB.
Look: We are STILL not “Elite”—but the rest of the field continues to come BACK to us, even as we steadily improve.
“First things first”. “One game at a time” and all that...but if we DO win in J-ville, and come out of there HEALTHY for a change, well, the biggest questions at THAT point may well be
(1) can we handle our biz against a strong but seemingly fading Mizzou squad, (2) sweep through remaining relatively weak opposition like we ought to, and (3) exploit a Tide team by now relying on a kid with that dreaded “high ankle sprain” they haven’t meanwhile had the luxury of sitting and letting HEAL properly in the intervening weeks. Tua is good—but he ain’t superhuman.
The laws of nature and modern medicine still apply to him; I have enormous respect for the kid—but if he hasn’t been sat once in the intervening weeks, that ankle and leg will be jiggly, to say the least.

If they beat UGA, they only need to beat Vandy at home and Mizzo at Columbia. Mizzo has had the Gators number (4-3 since they joined the SEC conference) though they did lose to Vandy. Then again, the Tigers are still 5-2. Also, I hope the Gators D can make Jake Fromm as bad (if not worse) as he did against the Muschomps.

The whole outlook has changed: No matter WHAT anyone ELSE does over these next few crucial weeks, we have it within our power and (when healthy, I now believe) talent level to seize control of the whole SEC, right NOW. (By the way, that would put us a solid year-plus ahead of schedule, from where I’m sitting). I’m not saying we will DO so—only that the worm is turning and it seems that a seismic shift may be in process here.

This thread’s title being what it is, I will offer this HERE:
It is halftime over in Red Stick, and they are all locked up at 10 each.
I’m not sure HOW I’m “supposed” to feel about that score, OR what a Gator fan SHOULD feel going forward from there...
It’s late in the 3rd quarter now—and it’s a good game! We ARE the Best Conference, little doubt about it: of COURSE we should field a COUPLE Of Teams in the FFF, no shit.

(One other side comment:
Between the weird “dramatic storylines” I can hardly follow, and (sorry, I am tolerant but it has started to give even ME the “creepy crawlies”) all the gay/rainbow-referenced support, We have recently passed some level of acceptance in commercials and their subject matter that begins to seem, at least to me, ummmmm, a little EXCESSIVE??? )

...and “oh btw”: WTF is “the ultra-G”???
It conjures up an image of something WE NEED TO GET AHOLD OF!!!
Saban & Co have Tua on one and he’s already to COME BACK?!!
We wait half a season to get our star athletes on DEfense to get back—and there’s some contraption that has theirs back in under 10 days?!!
Sounds like SOMEONE dropped the ball here...
