That is their explosive play gamble. Their offense is predicated on lulling the defense to sleep and popping one of these every so often.
So I see. Look: I KNOW we are better than these guys...Trouble is, so do our players--and their OVER-confidence is being cleverly used against them. This very competent coaching staff for Tenn-Martin came in with a plan that do far they have managed to smartly EXECUTE; and their well-coached, well-practiced team is so far able tp make the most of our situational carelessness. If we don't watch it, if we don't SMARTEN UP AND PLAY OUR GAME INSTEAD, we risk playing "Goliath" to their "David" here!
So it is time for US to grab OUR slings and GO GET THEM!!
THERE IT IS! FRANKS HITS THE LONG BOMB--and he nails Jefferson on the Dead RUN for the 69 yd TD!
(Don't look now, but at this point it is FRANKS who is "9-for-9" throwing!)

(Meanwhile, I'm getting a back-channel "early report" that they might be sending Tomey over to Shands for more tests at the half--they are doing follow-up X-rays now under the stands, but the first one had a "shadow" that often means fracture...we MIGHT be without him for a few weeks, if that turns out to be the case)

This is what our offense looks like WITHOUT Tomey: Still moves the ball--but we need more from Franks.
And he DELIVERS again! A long TOUCH pass to Cleveland! LIKE it!
Now at 12-for-12--and 2 BOMBS, too.
Call me spoiled--but I will feel a whole lot better STILL if Tomey comes trotting back out there eventually...but maybe not. Kid was JUST finally stepping up into a starring role he seems FITTED for.

Franks finally looking comfortable back there though. MAN, that is a satisfying relief.
Now: You think he got his hand under that ball here? Is this a CATCH, for a Tenn-Martin first down after all?

Another banged up Gator helped off. Damn. Meanwhile, they break open a wheel route on 2nd and long.
This is NOT some "lamb for slaughter". We need to turn on the pressure and KEEP it on until this one is PUT AWAY in the 2nd half. Then go shake their hands and wish them well--This opponent arrived well-prepared and came to play.

Overall, even beyond being perfect passing so far, I have been impressed with Filiepe here in the first half. He has been relaxed, confident and in control as a LEADER out there. He even went around and settled his offense DOWN at the start of this last drive from deep in their own end--as if to make sure they remembered that this was OUR game, in OUR house--and whatever happened next was gonna be good for US, or no one.

Alright. Worked for EVERYTHING there in the FIRST half; probably little change in the second.
All in all, we should feel satisfied--if not "content" with ourselves this far. We've still got work to do here, after all. Waiting to hear more about our injuries, and to SEE more far as our control and grneral ability to finish OFF an opponent--a game one, but one we KNOW we have wrested control from here.

Been ignoring it all back here in MY "den", but of course calls n texts coming in re LSU visiting Darrel K Royal Stadium downtown here in Austin--where so far Ehlinger and the Horns still keeping it close (though he just got caught deep on the speed rush for the sack)...punting near the end of the half, LSU up 13-7. Looks like they just hit the TD pass. Uh oh...good for the SEC--no good for us if Burrows actually starts to believe his own hype. In truth, I believe he is at BEST just a GOOD QB, NOT a game-breaking STAR. AND THEIR COACH is a "just squeeze out a win" sort of guy it seems...meanwhile, did I get this right? FSU wins by ONE POINT when LOUISIANA MONROE MISSES THE EXTRA POINT THAT WOULDA TIED IT ALL UP IN OVERTIME??? Ya gotta be kidding us!!!

I am watching the LSU-UTx game on the other screen. That LSU defense is scary. The offense is starting to look good.

I was following the ULM-FSU game as well. The referees did not want FSU to lose.

Alright: Got our OWN game to finish over here. When all's said and done, we have a 24-zip lead and we are now headed for the 2nd half comfortably in control. My friend is out in the country at what by all accounts is a wild raucous ruckus involving Crown Royal belly button shots courtesy of the national touring team of "Crown Royal Girls", apparently--Do NOT know how they ended up at my friend's BUDDY'S house--but he is clearly in no shape to explain ANYTHING right about NOW. TRIED to encourage him to move to another room, settle down and let it all cool out a bit for now--alcohol, concern, frustration, women and sweating out a close score in a big game are a dangerous combo; I don't wanna see my friend "celebrating" WHATEVER the game's ultimate outcome hung over and posting bail tomorrow morning! But he made his own choices. All in all, sorta mirrors the difference in the two GAMES.
Meanwhile, Gators pull off long, steady drive that culminates in another TD. Notice how they replaced Toney with several runners in that drive? Hope he's ok and back soon--but we have alternatives and are getting them in there with positive results.
It is on defense where we are now just really coming now: the wnd and 3rd. string backups are getting more and regular chances at playing now--and they can just "pin their EARS back" and come after them. And when the offense DOES GET IT, it is all DOWN HILL to the opponent's endzone from there. Like here.
38-0 on a pass from TRASK now. '
