After two weeks of dealing with Miami Tropical Depressions and Hurricane Dorian, the Gators now get to feast on Skyhawks. The University of Tennessee-Martin team might be the best Tennessee team that the Gators face all year, even though the Skyhawks are 180th in the Sagarin ratings (compared to the Gators at 17). The Skyhawks uniforms look like Auburn War Eagle Tiger uniforms, so pretend this is a warm-up.

The Skyhawks were 2-9 last year, and are near the bottom of any rankings in most cases. They run a basic spread offense out of the pistol formation and a 3-3-5 defense. They will likely try to run using their scatbacks to set up the explosive plays that they gamble on. The Gators run a multiple offense that features some elements of Urban Meyer's and Dan Mullen's Utah spread option/ zone read, the trendy RPO, and the NFL spread. The Gators run a hybrid 3-3-5/ 4-2-5 defense.

Gators are favored by 45. I predict the Orange and Blue will defeat the Blue and Orange, 66-10.

Sigh...
Alright: There's little we can gain, internally or at large, from the actual, eventual OUTCOME of this game...So let's just get to it.
Main deal for US here is to see our multitude of preseason flaws and mistakes CORRECTED. Above ALL I wanna see an end to missed tackles, half-assed casual "throw my shoulder low at his knees"-type silliness. Yikes, we saw a LOT of that in Week Zero--looked like HELL!
OTHER thing is to see Franks run this offense with brisk efficiency: I don't give a DAMN about what defense they run--some weird "3-5-3" that is supposed to "bend but not break" against bigger, faster teams... Look, we ARE "bigger, faster"--and it's about TIME we regularly asserted ourselves in such cases! Take control in the 1st quater, begin to pull away in the 2nd--then bring in Emory and bring on the 2nd string /(hopefully soon-to-BE) 2ND WAVE of O-linemen who will eventually build the kind of depth that keeps us fresh into the 4th quarter against SEC squads, as the season progresses.
This is the VALUE of such games, if there is to be any: Ideally, game-experience makes the whole TEAM better.
We're NOT here just to run up the score and feel good about it--though THAT WILL be a natural consequence of what we do, if/when we approach it all properly and do things right.
It's still early in the season, obviously, and there'll no doubt continue to be sloppiness and sudden let downs--but these types of games are OPPORTUNITIES for progress. If we are to truly grow, improve, ascend as a program on the NATIONAL level, that is how we MUST approach them. EXPECT to win--and though take quiet pride in what we achieve, NOT necessarily get over-excited at success, should we find it: That's what we're SUPPOSED to accomplish here. I wanna see us go out and TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS, across-the-board. The rest will take care of itself.

Meanwhile, whole LOTTA weird stuff goin' on around. College Football Nation. Army flirting with an "upset" of Michigan (though personally I doubt even the much-overrated Harbough will manage to counter-coach his superiorly-talented squad out of a win in this one--it's possible, but he saves his TOTAL mismanagements for Ohio State), 13th-ranked Utah TRYING to lose to Northern Illinois, and surprising Maryland opening up a BIG lead on much-hyped Syracuse (only the Terps seem intent of turning their "big day" into "The Big 2nd Half Collapse", if they don't smarten up and actually PLAY TO WIN this thing: I mean, you GOTTA be able to find a way to "hold on" with a 29 point lead late in the 3rd quarter, for cryimg out loud).
More and more I find myself wondering if the "voters" who dropped US outta the Top Ten for beating Miami sloppily wouldn't mind revaluating that poll, at this point. I'd make a bigger deal about it except it hardly mattrrs at this point--For now, "Just keep winning, anyway you CAN Gators!". The rest'll take care of itself as the season progresses.
Just noticed that E-- has put up a "competing" Gameday Thread here... I put up THIS one I thought somewhat belatedly when I saw he hadn't done so himself what I feared was gettimg to be "later" here this morning...For myself, it don't matter which we use:
Hey @Escambia94, go ahead and do that thing where you fold two of these threads together, if you can. I admit it--I couldn't figure out exactly how that is managed!
Or we can just abandon this one (save for anyone who wants to further address my compulsive ramblings so far over here!).
Me, think I'll throw a DiGourno in the oven, some TGIF boneless wings in the microwave (believe it or not, the "honey barbeque" are easy, quick and DECENT!), transfer some Heinies to the ice-filled cooler and set myself up here with flat screen and laptop in Lazy Gator Heaven...

This is a stupid review in the Tenn game: only moves the kick up, IF they call that "irrefutable evidence"--which really, it AIN'T... BUT they DO give it to them, and they GO on 4th instead of kicking the now potential chip shot...STILL don't see how they over-RULED that last miss--at best half his foot landed on white outtabounds. But they feel they have to gamble now to open up a TD-lead early?
This Pruitt is aldeady playin' scared, fir his job I'm guessing.
Ok, here we go...All these Mr. Two Bits yellow shirts out there! But the thing you CAN'T reproduce is the man's INTENSITY! He'd suddenly pop up in a diff part of the stadium, everyone around him would stamd up and cheer--and away he/WE would GO: "TWO Bits, Four Bits, SIX Bits, a DOLLAR...ALL. FOR.GATORS...STANDUP AND HOLLER...Gooooooooo, GATORS!!!"

Keep an eye on Peyton Logan. He might be the Skyhawks' only offense unless they get one of those explosive plays.

Aw--he turned up field without the ball--so we take the 3 pts instead. But that's somethin' I really hate to SEE in this one. I was JUST bout to ask a rhetorical q about "how many ways we can score being one of the big q's we'd be researching today..." So much for "Don't get cocky, kid!"

The Gator offense is going vanilla, which means they do not plan on scoring a lot. I guess my prediction of 66-10 is wrong. This might be 36-3.

Well, this Tenn-Martin team is working hard, anyway. So far they ARE giving us a game. Sure HOPE our guys understood coming in this WASN'T gonna be HANDED to us. We are gonna have to TAKE this one--and NOT be sloppy about it, either!

Going for it?!!
I like their "TRY"--there is FIGHT in this dog--but we truly ARE bigger, faster: The cannot "trick themselves" around our guys forever. Not so sure you don't "reverse the field" here, now you have the chance to do so...
Ah. Changing their minds now...

Yeah--clearly we aren't gonna show the rest of the SEC ANYTHING if they don't have to.
After the nice Franks run, though, these opponents return to tough football. Looks like Tomey actually HURT himself on a stiff stop on 2nd down--he's headed to the locker room for a wrist Xray I think. DAMN! Last thing we wanna SEE here are injuries.
Note the good tackling technique from our opponents on defense. Like to see more of that "proper technoque" from OUR guys going forward. Too much of that "one flashy hit"-stuff from our guys all too often so far.
What a poor play call on 4th down! You GOTTA do a better job there than that.

We need to tighten up and PLAY NOW!
They actually plaged us even in the 1st quarter! WE FELT like we were in control--but we did little to actually TAKE control. Time to step it UP a notch!

We just gave up a first from a 3rd down and 12!!! Then went for the bomb!
That was their QB's first incompletion here tonight! Hey guys: It's time to strap on those helmuts! You got a fight here: Theze giys now truly BELIEVE they can WIN this thing--which makes them truly dangerous, btw.

That is their explosive play gamble. Their offense is predicated on lulling the defense to sleep and popping one of these every so often.

No. I don't like this ONE BIT. THIS has gone the wrong way for two damn long here!
Don't look now, but we are now another SEC team unexpectedly having a hard tine woth what was expected to be an "easy opponent"...
Time to get it TOGETHER! I MEAN IT!
