UF's 2008 Receiver class makes grade - A+

RECEIVERS
The signees: Frankie Hammond Jr., 6-foot, 170 pounds, Hallandale; Omarius Hines, 6-1, 205, Corsicana, Texas; T.J. Lawrence, 6-0, 185, Lakeland Kathleen; Carl Moore, 6-3, 220, Sierra Community College in Cordova, Calif.

The star: On tape, Moore looks a lot like Terrell Owens. He's big, fast, has good hands and makes plays. As Urban Meyer said when Moore signed in December, you don't go all the way to California to recruit a junior college kid unless you think he's going to have an immediate impact. The coaches are confident Moore will be a factor starting this spring. This past season, he caught 73 passes for 1,068 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The sleeper: After catching only six passes in his junior season at Hallandale, Hammond became a big-time prospect after a huge senior season that saw him catch 46 passes for 880 yards (19.1 yards per reception) and 10 touchdowns. He's a speedy home-run hitter who also returned two punts for touchdowns this past season. He's a bit undersized at the moment, but he has the speed and skills to be a playmaker in the offense.

One that got away: Darryl Stonum, Sugar Land, Texas. He committed to Michigan so long ago (July) that he was sort of a forgotten name during the height of the recruiting season. But he's a speedy game-breaker who was a key UF target and a player the Gators were really hoping to land.

Grade: A+ With Andre Caldwell graduating and Jarred Fayson transferring, this became a position of need and the Gators signed four top prospects, including one (Moore) who could become an instant starter with a good spring.

Top target in 2009? Willie Haulstead, 6-4, 215, Titusville. He grew up a Miami fan, but he's very interested in the Gators after attending Junior Day three weeks ago. He's a big, fast target who caught 45 passes for 648 yards and 13 touchdowns this past season. He's a versatile athlete who also is a starter in the Titusville secondary.
