Teddy Dupay arrested for rape and kidnapping?!?!?

Awesomeness
Former Florida basketball player Teddy Dupay, instrumental in UF’s run to the 2000 NCAA basketball finals, has been arrested in Utah on felony charges of rape, aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault.

Prosecutors charged Edward Raymond Dupay, 29, with the three first-degree charges following what court documents describe as an attack at a Deer Valley, Utah, lodge.

Court documents obtained by The Sun list Dupay’s birth date as June 26, 1979, the same birth date listed in the 1998-99 Florida basketball media guide.

According to court records, Dupay was arrested and booked into Summit County Jail on June 19 after he attacked the victim, a 28-year-old woman.

The victim acknowledged in the report that she had a two-year relationship with Dupay.

Court records say the victim accused Dupay of taking her by force and raping her on the floor of Room 119-2 of the Stein Ericksen Lodge.

According to the documents, the victim estimated that Dupay hit or kicked her 150 times after locking the door of the room. The victim said Dupay told her he would catch her and kill her family if she attempted to leave, according to court records.

In the report, Dupay said it got “a little rough” but denied raping her.

According to court records, Dupay told investigators, “How can you rape someone you love?”

Officers who arrived at the lobby of the lodge reported that the victim had bruises on her outer right thigh, scratches on her back, large bruises on her back, large bruises on her upper arm and shoulder and a swollen eye, the court records said. X-rays taken following the incident showed the victim had two broken ribs, the documents said. Officers said the victim was sobbing uncontrollably when they arrived at the scene.

“Additionally, there was dried blood around her lips,” the court documents said.

Dupay posted $40,000 bail and was released on June 19. On June 28, Dupay played in a Florida alumni charity basketball game in Boca Raton sponsored by former teammate Udonis Haslem.

The three felonies charges, upon conviction, carry sentences of a minimum of six years to a maximum of life imprisonment, according to court records.

The arrest represents another troubled turn for Dupay, who arrived at Florida with great promise after earning Florida Mr. Basketball honors out of Cape Coral Mariner High School in 1998 as part of UF coach Billy Donovan’s second recruiting class.

Dupay enjoyed his best season at UF in 1999-2000, averaging 8.6 points and 2.6 assists to help lead UF to the 2000 Final Four. But he left the Florida program in September 2001 following allegations that he gambled on college sports.

Following college, Dupay played professionally overseas and in the United States Basketball League.

Dupay’s mother, Pamela Dupay, said he was living in Utah but that she was unaware of her son facing felony charges.

“I don’t know anything about an arrest,” she said, declining further comment.

Attempts to reach Dupay were unsuccessful.

Dupay is the second member of the Florida 2000 Final Four team that had faced problems with the law. In 2003, Major Parker, the captain of the 2000 team, was arrested outside The Oaks Mall in Gainesville in December 2003 on felony federal charges of dealing cocaine in an undercover sting. Parker pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine after cooperating with authorities. He was sentenced in February 2006 to six months of house arrest and two-and-half years probation.

Donovan did not immediately return calls seeking comment Wednesday night.

Dupay’s arrest was first reported on the Park City (Utah) Record’s Web site.

I don't feel sorry for Teddy Dupay at all. He had a successful college career and threw it in the toilet once Coach Donovan kicked him off the team for gambling. If he did indeed abuse his girlfriend, he stooped even lower.

Holy crap man. I just read this now. Talk about throwing your life away. Just like you said, he was a star bball player and then started gambling. It all went downhill from there.
