Senior Day and Mr. Two-Bits' Recognition Set for Saturday

With the University of Florida senior football players and Mr. Two-Bits, George Edmondson, to be honored in special pre-game ceremonies, all Gator fans are being asked to arrive early and be in their seats for this Saturday's game between third-ranked Florida and The Citadel at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

"I have asked our fans and The Gator Nation to be there at 1 p.m. Saturday," head coach Urban Meyer said. "There are times when a senior class is worthy. These are seniors that deserve the recognition for their performance and for the way they've represented this great school. This group of seniors is going to be very emotional for our staff, very emotional for our players. Our program goals are to graduate, number one, and to compete for championships, number two, and if blessed, go on to the NFL. Every one of these kids has accomplished their goals and they deserve 90,000 fans in that stadium at 1 o'clock wiping their eyes, because our staff will be, our coaches will be and our players will be. These are phenomenal people, phenomenal kids. They are really good people with great futures ahead of them and if you haven’t had the chance to meet them, you need to."

The 2008 Gator Senior Class has posted an overall record of 40-9 (.816) and are 24-8 (.750) in Southeastern Conference action, highlighted by the BCS National Championship and SEC title in 2006, Eastern Division crowns in '06 and '08 and two January bowl victories. The 2008 senior class currently holds a 24-2 (.923) record in "The Swamp." The following are members of the class: Curtis Carr, Tate Casey, John Curtis, Jamaal Deveaux, Javier Estopinan, Andrew Fritze, Brad Hiers, Cornelius Ingram, Andrew Johnson, Bobby Kane, Kestahn Moore, Louis Murphy, Kyle Newell, Jonathan Phillips, Kyle Pratt, Butch Rowley, James Smith, Jim Tartt, Greg Taussig, Phil Trautwein and Jason Watkins.

The 86-year-old Edmondson, who has led his famous cheer at Gator games for 60 years, is retiring from his role and will cap his career versus his alma mater. Ironically, The Citadel was also UF's opponent when he made his debut way back on Sept. 24, 1949. The first 10,000 Florida students will receive Mr. Two-Bits paper ties to wear in his honor.
