Following a weekend in which he won four individual events and notched three NCAA provisional qualifying standards, University of Florida freshman Roland Rudolf (Budapest, Hungary) was named the Division I men’s National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.

Rudolf was at the forefront of the Gators’ attack on Jan. 20, sweeping the backstroke events to lead 11th-ranked Florida to wins over No. 18 Alabama and South Carolina in a tri-meet setting. He touched first in the 100 back with a career-best time of 49.93, and came through with a victory and an NCAA provisional time (1:46.79) in the 200 back later in the meet.

Against Auburn on Jan. 19, Rudolf got his outing underway with a first-place finish in the 200 back, posting a career-best and NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 1:45.24. He also won the 500 free with an NCAA-provisional and collegiate-best effort of 4:24.14, and took second in the 200 free with a personal-best 1:38.19.

Rudolf owns eight wins and seven NCAA provisional standards on the season, as well as the U.S. Open championship in the 200-meter back, where he recorded a time that automatically qualified him for the 2007 NCAA Championships. Since Jan. 12, Rudolf has produced six event wins and five NCAA provisional qualifying times in four UF outings, while leading the Gators to a 4-1 record over that stretch.

Rudolf is the second Florida swimmer to garner NCSW honors this season, as sophomore Lucas Salatta (Sao Paulo, Brazil) captured the award on Oct. 25. UF is the only school in the nation to have two different swimmers earn nods as the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week this year, and joins Northwestern as the only institutions to receive the honor twice during the campaign. Rudolf also joins Rick Berens of Texas and Scott Spann of Michigan as the only freshmen to take home NCSW honors this season.
