Reports: Brent Pease and Tim Davis out as OC and OLC

Sources have told Gator Country to expect a replacement for Pease to be picked sooner than later with a decision to come down in the next two weeks.

We have also been told from multiple sources that Tim Davis will not return as offensive line coach next season. The Gators finished ranked No. 12 in the SEC after allowing 27 sacks and Florida is looking to overhaul the offense in 2014.

Florida owes Pease about $1.2 million for the remaining two years on his contract. It's unclear what direction Muschamp will go with his third offensive coordinator in four years, but the better question is what will the offense look like after the change.

One would expect the search for new coaches to start at one of the names on this list: http://www.gatorenvy.com/threads/top-ncaa-head-coaches-and-offensive-coordinators.17095/

What does Gator Envy say? Who should be the next offensive coordinator and offensive line coach?

See my comments elsewhere--re the original firings and their announcement, and ESPECIALLY the Ron Burgundy-link (and my follow-up thoughts, of course).
Main point and possible "perfect answer to the Big Question": CLAY HELTON. Check it, and specifically anything you can find on HIM--'cause turns out he's PERFECT. Count me as an "early jumper" to the "Clay Helton Bandwagon"...If THAT was the reason Muschamp was secretly talking to Lane Kiffen the last couple of weeks of the season, NOT so much to feel HIM out for the OC-job (one that Kiffen was and is apparently interested in, by some reports), but to find out everything he could about Helton's skills, methods and extent-of-responsibility on Kiffen's staff (and certainly noting his results as "interim Head Coach" after Kiffen's forced-exit, where a moribund USC team suddenly rose up, became dangerous, especially on offense, and won 6 of the 8 games on the toughest part of their schedule), then maybe Muschamp has begun to truly accept the problems and necessities as to what's gone wrong and what needs to change in Gainesville--and has a clear eye on what to DO about it after all:
Were he to hand over the Gator offense to Helton, give him no more than general guidelines as to what he hoped to see in terms of it's future direction and, based on his own research and gut-level feelings in making the decision, trust this "hot young up'n'comer" (as I note elsewhere, something many have insisted was not available to us now in the first place) to get that done as he sees fit, this could turn out to be, among a string of quick-turn-arounds Helton's presided over already, his most notable and dramatic yet by far.

On a related note, I found it interesting to read that Brent Pease and Will Muschamp had planned on using elements of the spread with Driskel and Debose/Robinson/Purifoy, but that Driskel's injuries, the suspension of Demarcus Robinson, and the need to shift Purifoy back to defense (due to injuries with Marcus Roberson) got in the way. Throw in alleged issues such as disagreements between Pease and Tim Davis on blocking schemes, and now it is starting to make sense.

Earlier in the season in the few videos of practice, the offense looked different from what we saw in summer practice, week 1 after Debose's and Roberson's injuries and week 4 when Tyler took over. I noticed one more change in week 14 with Skyler.

The summer practice offense looked like a Boise multiple offense with a mix of short blast blocks from the offensive line and quick strikes to tall, fast receivers (Debose, Robinson, Purifoy), and long-developing counter/trap blocking with multiple reads to the smaller receivers (Patton/ Showers) and downfield blocking from Dunbar and Burton.

Week 1 we did not have Debose, Purifoy and Robinson, so the offense did not use the Boise multiple/ spread/ quick strike.

Week 4 we could have used Robinson and Purifoy finally, but Driskel was out and we lost two offensive linemen. We stuck with the slow developing counter and trap blocking using two offensive linemen who were not used to long blocks, and Murphy kept getting hurried.

By week 14 we have the original offensive linemen back from week 1 for better blocking, but we had FSU's All American DE in Skyler's face and we saw now horrible Skyler is at quick-read, quick strike offense.

In short, injuries doomed this team from the get-go and the coaches disagreed on the injury workarounds.

True about the injuries, of course--but it was things like that "disagreement" among coaches, one of a number of such "shoot yourself" factors, that not only greatly contributed to the fact and extent of that doom, but made the staff--and as both the leader of/man responsible for that team and a contributor himself, Will Muschamp--a deserving target for the fans' wrath.
